Alien and Prometheus

The new sci-fi movie coming out this summer named Prometheus is coming out. Now seeing enough previews of the movie I know that Prometheus is another sequel to the Alien series. Everyone is telling me that it isn't but i am one-hundred percent convinced that it is.

Except ridley refuses to say it is. He wants it to be a standalone movie with tie-ins to the franchise and the first movie supposedly.

Anyways, its out here and i shall go see it come saturday.

They kind of killed the series as more and more spot light was thrown on the Aliens. I think Prometheus is meant to set up a new big bad, I could be wrong, I haven't seen it yet, but I'm pretty sure they want to milk the cash cow again.

Still if they do it right, I won't complain

He also used to deny it being tied in at all, even though there is Space Jockey tech clearly visible in the trailers. Who even knows anymore.

It is a prequel but isn't a direct one. There are references to Alien in it and some of the stuff in it explains things about Alien but it has nothing to do with Alien. Different monsters, different crew and a much earlier time period.
Having seen it I'd say it's a good film on it's own but as for answering questions about the original Alien it isn't so good. Looks really pretty though.

Its a prequel that ties in to Alien AND Bladerunner.

Urrr... no I don't think it is really. The only similarity to blade runner is the androids but they aren't called replicants and were in the original Alien films as well. Nothing to do with Bladerunner as far as I could tell.

Why are we even discussing this? It's not a direct prequel, but set in the same universe, before the events of the original Alien films. That's it.

It's a "prequel" in that it's set before the first Alien movie in the same universe.

Which is like saying Star Trek Enterprise is a prequel to The Next Generation. Technically true, but not really.

I'm saying DIRECT prequel given it explains why there are even f*cking Aliens. Seriously, one of the major plot elements is pretty much just proto-aliens that through the events of the movie becomes real aliens

Just because the main focus isn't the Aliens themselves doesn't mean it isn't a prequel.

Ignoring the fact pretty much every element of the movie is a direct homage to Alien

it was just an origin story but with a main plot about Humans and those big tall f*ckers.

Genuine question, everyone's seen this right? Because after seeing it I can't see how 'it's in the same universe but isn't a prequel' mindset makes sense given
