I guess you had forgotten some of the scenes in Alien? it kind of shows that Prometheus is a preclude to Alien due to recognised scenes in Promethemus matched in Alien.

Not only that, but its an awful movie to boot.

Pretty awesomely shot, but the story is so bad its laughable.

No, it's on a completely different planet, actually - LV-223 as opposed to LV-426.

It's a a pre----

Aww, ninja'd. Like... a dozen times.

I'm looking forward to seeing it. I'll be going to the midnight opening show. I had yesterday off from work, so I re-watched the Alien Quadrilogy again (then listened to each of their commentary tracks while getting some gaming in) in an effort to come up with an incredibly fanboyish and dorky list of questions about the universe I'd like to see answered by a prequel. Stuff that's never really been canonically explained (though admittedly mentioned from time to time in many non-canon sources like the comics, novels, and video games) to the best of my knowledge.

It sounds like the movie leaves a lot of things unanswered... but I still hope I can get the answers to at least some of my questions.

I'm curious as to why Europe seems to be getting so many films before America these days. We had Prometheus last week and it seems like so long ago.

We had the Avengers first too, right? And Battleship. Although, in that case, it might have been better if we hadn't had it at all.

I'm saying DIRECT prequel given it explains why there are even f*cking Aliens. Seriously, one of the major plot elements is pretty much just proto-aliens that through the events of the movie becomes real aliens

Just because the main focus isn't the Aliens themselves doesn't mean it isn't a prequel.

Ignoring the fact pretty much every element of the movie is a direct homage to Alien
(melting face-plates, chest-burster, dangerous threat flying around the hanger killing everyone)
it was just an origin story but with a main plot about Humans and those big tall f*ckers.

Genuine question, everyone's seen this right? Because after seeing it I can't see how 'it's in the same universe but isn't a prequel' mindset makes sense given

Alien was on LV-426

Prometheus is on LV-233

Just clarifying some facts.

HA! Got this twice but still, good point. I got confused by the nigh identical scenery and memory of it just being LV- something. Don't think it disproves my stance of it being a pretty clear prequel.

It's really good. Go watch it, keeping in mind that: 1) It's not an Alien movie 2) It's not a horror movie, more grand sci-fi than horror 3) The story is wide open to discussion and interpretation and it ends on a cliffhanger, though not a cheap infuriating one 4) It's full of rage-worthy antiscience antilogic events, like brilliant scientists taking off their spacesuit helmets in an alien world, just because the air is breathable, without knowing anything else about potential viruses or microoorganisms, it does make you cringe and mumble "bullshit" occasionally, the film is clearly not as clever and thought out as it thinks it is. Other than that, it's a good sci-fi movie in an era when there are no sci-fi movies, so hurray to that.
