I would explain the value of our art and culture, the very best of creative endeavors and the great strength of the human spirit.
That should stall while the nukes are being armed.

At the risk of slapping my usually optimistic self in the face, I'd have to agree with some of the other comments and say that we're probably not worth saving. But I don't see why it's any of his business. Why does he even have to decide between saving or destroying us? Can't he just leave us be?

So I feel that it would not be useful to show them:

1. A piece of technology that we have; for if they have gotten here, they will have likely superceded it, and will in fact view us as technologically inferior.

2. A meal, a drink, a precious metal, something along that line; for if they see it, they can simply reason that they can take all that over our dead bodies, and in fact, it would be easier to do so.

Consequently, the only interesting thing we would have to a race of technologically superior aliens would be something they can never obtain, something about homo sapiens. So I would give them someone that can reason and think with the best of them, someone who can see a situation, think of it, and figure out applications or possibilities. While they likely possess such reason and intelligence, it would be a surprise for them to see something close to an equivalence in this. It is our best chance at sticking around, really. Or assimilation.

I'd punch it in the face and tell it to f**k off.
Who is it to judge and besides, aliens might taste good :p

I'd say we have to get our stuff right on our own, otherwise we wouldn't be worth to be saved (*cookie for everyone who finds the reference*)

Well, but a little incentive would be sweet, for example what awaits us if we really get over ourselves - I just don't see a lot of people who are able to change their ways without any guidepost

Can't I instead argue that we're not really worth destroying? It basically amounts to the same thing.

I would send them a copy of my bucket list, along with a few other things to do, such as:

-Drive at speeds of over 200 MPH in a car
-put on a wingsuit and fly off of a mountain
-watch a comedy show
-attend a performance by the London Symphony Orchestra
-Learn of our history, of fearless warriors, valiant freedom fighters, amazing artists, and incredible feats of engineering
-see how far we are willing to go for those we care for, no matter the cost
-teach them traits like honesty, virtue, integrity, and generosity
-have them experience feelings like love, power, sadness, joy, and self rightousness

But most of all, send them some pictures of angelina jolie... they will never do us in then xD

I've been labeled a pessimist (though I more swing towards the "realist" designation) and I'm frankly astounded at all the "humanity isn't worth saving" comments. Really, people? If nothing else, you'd want to save humanity because you are human. (I assume.)

OT: I'd show examples of little human kindnesses. There's all sorts of little things people just do without expecting any sort of return on it. People holding up doors, volunteering, what have you. Just little things. I think that would be something that an alien race, asking to objectively judge the human race, wouldn't expect to see, and may not be able to see in their own race.

I'd tell them what is needed for humanity to be saved. Just saying don't kill us all because of "blank" isn't going to cut it. You'd need to prove to them that humanity is worthy of continued existence (which we are) but it'll be really hard when you have a big percentage of the population gerenally being bad or doing bad things to others (humans/anything living). The subject is too complicated to discuss bassed on a "what if"... basicly.

What do you say/do?

You've all probably seen movie/game (coughgreenlanterndaytheearthstoodstillcough) where aliens debate on whether they should commit to sparing/saving Earth.

I figure this is probably a difficult question for pessemistics.
"You're honestly asking ME!?!? ha!"

"What do you say Noob Saibot?"

Well I hope you're happy

Because if they did destroy humanity/let it die then they would be guilty of genocide and then they would be just as bad as us.

Actually even better get Peter Molenuex to negotiate our survival, that guy is a friggin hypnotist and after an hour long presentation he would be turning them around to the idea of sharing tech with us and allowing our dominion over them.

I'd just give them a list of people I wouldn't mind keeping alive, and then get yelled at by said people for not defending the position of thier family and friends.

I'd mirror what someone else said...If these aliens think they have the right to murder an entire sentient species, then they're less deserving of life than we are...at which point demand their ship and a map to their planet so we can blow the hell out of it.

I'd offer to die if they would save the rest of the planet from extinction... but only after Star Wars: The Old Republic came out so I could get a few good months of immersing myself in that game before going willingly to my death.

That way I would at least die happy.

no, i havent seen that movie... but luckily this is one of those instances where a spoiler doesnt bother me.

anyway, i would probably tell them how many good humans there are, despite all the bad ones. also, i would show how humans advance in technology, and adapt other elements and resources to create new technologies. it would be mutually beneficial to the aliens if they saved us, because eventually, humans would surely invent something very useful to them.
