Aliens come to Earth. They threaten to blow it up unless you can show them that the Earth is worth saving. All you have at your disposal is your video game library and your console. What game do you show them to save humanity?

I would probably troll the shit out of them and play some Duke Nukem game.

Half Life 2, thus saving the world indefinitely as they won't be able to bring themselves to destroying it until Episode 3 comes out.

"Before you destroy the planet... you guys have played Half Life 2, right?"

If nothing else, it'll give someone time to plant a nuke or twenty on the Mothership :D

EDIT: NINJAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!

Princess Maker 2. No doubt that game would teach them how humans are on a higher level of conciseness to any other species in the universe and deserve to rule over all creation.

Portal 2. Just cause I'm playing it right now and I wanna finish it before they kill us all. And if they like it enough to not kill us, all the better.

Minecraft, and hopefully they'd be to busy building a full scale replica of their mother-ship to bother us.

Easy one. I'll make them a deal: they can destroy the Earth as soon as they win Nethack. That should keep the slimeballs busy for a couple of years at least.

DA:O with full DLC and expansions, and tell them not to blow the world up until they finish it on the hardest difficulty, with completing every side quest. That should give us a ton of time to either:
a) evacuate
b) place tactical nukes inside their motherships
c) send a commando team and take control of one of their motherships
(Seriously, that game took forever to finish. I loved it, but it was extremely long)

Failing that, I'd show them Duke Nukem Forever and tell them that this is what happened to the last aliens that tried to wipe us out.

Failing even that, I'd have them play Bioshock and, when they finished ask the 'Would you kindly leave us alone?'

How about Space Invaders and hope they learn from the strategy. It would be much easier to defeat a fleet moving side to side, in formation, slowly descending now and then :)

Probably not Mass Effect 2.

I would show them Flower, show them that humanity is not all about simulated slaughter of hundreds of people.

We want a game they will love and can't put down.

Peggle.

Calumon: Extreme fever! :D
This.

Peggle is probably the most addicting game and it is awesome, and considering i mainly play FPS and RPG games, Peggle was a big surprise

I imagine the pure unadulterated fun of Super Mario Galaxy, in all its majesty, would overcome the hearts of the vile extraterrestrial villains, thus saving the world.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Online!

Nothing could destroy us after seeing this game being made. They wouldn't have the hearts.

Heh...why would a videogame possess the necessary persuasive power to save humanity?

Also: the title of the thread and the core description are two very different things.

In the one scenario they want me to show them a videogame (nothing more)...in the other I have nothing but videogames to show them when they ask me for a reason to spare humanity.

If the second scenario is the one to go by, then you must accept the possibility that no matter what game you show them...humanity will be erased because videogames possibly cannot impress them.

and that concludes my overanalysis.

Do you really want frustrated angry alien overlords? Or try the same deal but until they win Dwarf Fortress, that should give us a long time.
