So much fun as the alien...
So much fun as the predator...

Boy did it suck to be human in that game. I don't just mean for the NPC's, either. I mean playing human (for me) was terrifying. Aliens coming out of dark holes in the walls, crawling along the ceiling until their acid blood is spraying all over you... *shudder*
The game was fantastic. I believe there was an expansion, where humans got a 360-degree motion sensor instead of a 180-degree one. Happy days.
I remember that the first time I played AVP2. I think it took me 10 minutes to finally descend into the sewers at the beginning of "The Long Detour" because I was so creeped out by the area. Even then I was jumping half the time.

Oh, the Expansion, while broading the plot a little, wasn't really that good, and a lot more difficult. You learn more about the Iron Bears, but that's about it.
Yeh I do think the mercs got a 360 motion tracker, but the range was also cut quite a bit because of it making it pretty much useless. The expansion was pretty meh, maybe I should review the thing. Thoughts?

I'd do it if my copy(of primal hunt, not AVP2) wasn't 3K miles away right now and it hadn't been years since I went through it, once.

If you want to, go for it. For a single playthrough, it's not a waste of time(or money, at the cheapo prices you'd find it today). I've just never felt the urge to go back to it.

I can do a brief review of the expansion if you like:

The expansion should be considered for multiplayer only. It adds some new options and abilities that you may use there. New guns and such, the famous predator self-destruct, new levels, and predaliens. Onto single player:

Each race gets three new missions, none of which are all that long, and a storyline that some may enjoy but I was basically completely unable to care about. The three characters you play continue to cross paths (quite literally in one specific case) but I didn't think it was done as well. Overall, the expansion felt really rushed to me. Onto each race!

Aliens: You get the Predalien. He's bigger, he's stronger, he's slower, and he has a much shorter mission. Gameplay-wise it isn't really any different except that you fight almost entirely synthetics because humans would be too easy. You never get to fight a predator, either.

Predators: Do you like red? How much? The HUD has been redone so all the colours are red now, and you'll be spending most of your time in electrical (red-vision) mode, because this predator only fights humans maybe three times. You get a new gun (the energy flechette) which is basically a way to give the predator something rapid fire. It has very low damage for how much energy it uses and I stopped using it pretty quickly.

Humans: The humans are the undisputed winner of this expansion, recieving dual pistols (stylish, but use the smartgun, fool), a placeable turrent (nice), and a 360 degree motion tracker. The new tracker should be considered a must for multiplayer. As before, the human playthrough is where the bulk of the "story" takes place, but again, you won't care about it. It involves an artifact or something. Go play multiplayer.
