Make me excited. Tell me things about this game that'll peak my interest.
Do you like the Aliens films, particularly the first two? Have you played AVP2? Are you looking forward to the new AVP game out next month? If the answer to any of these questions was 'yes' you should already be considering buying this.
Not enough? Well, despite AVP2 being the superior game, AVP did a lot of things that have never been recreated. It is still utterly terrifying and tension-filled for one major reason: you never know when you're going to get attacked. Play through any FPS more than once and you'll know exactly where and when enemies are going to appear, or spawn. AVP - you don't. Enemy encounters are totally random, so you're totally reliant on the brilliantly-realised Motion Tracker (if you've seen Aliens you'll know what I mean). And you have to turn that off if you use your night-vision goggles. You can play this game a thousand times and still not know when an alien's going to jump you.
The xenomorphs themselves are also perfectly done, scuttling from floor to ceiling at great speed before jumping at you from out of the darkness. It even has a System Shock/Bioshock feel of being totally alone apart from someone on your audio feed giving you instructions.
And that's just the Marine campaign. While it's obviously the best, the Alien and Predator campaigns are great fun too. The Alien's the hardest, having to scout vents and hidden passageways and chow down on heads to regain health. Predators get a selection of great weapons as well as a cloak, but it's basically just a distraction.
Not enough? How about the fact that it's one of the few games not made by Rare or Free Radical to take a page out of GoldenEye's book? Unlockable cheat modes, levels you can choose from a menu once unlocked, targets to aim for (accuracy, heads snacked on, etc) that unlock those cheats, that sort of thing.
Tons of replay value here, and it's only £2.99/$4.99. The graphics are fairly basic, but they've held up better than most games. And once the multiplayer mode gets added, for free, that'll be even more replay value.
