getting ratings anywhere from 50-70% for performance issues for PC players, bad controls, tiny multiplayer caps because of peer-to-peer bandwith restrictions, bland gameplay, and a lot of angry fans who bought into hype.. I even saw pirates talking other pirates out of downloading it because it's a waste of time and bandwith, and the number of people seeding it is extremely low compared to other games on release. (looks like the best way to reduce piracy is to make a bad game?)

wow, looks like a rental to me. Even the normally publisher blowing gamespot gave it a poor review

Doesn't really surprise me. Movie to Video Game rarely is done properly, especially in the cookie cutter world of FPS'.
Goldeneye was the last one I enjoyed and that was over a decade ago.

Also I've never really understood people's obsession with the Alien series. One was okay, and after that the series just kept getting shittier and shittier and didn't know when to quit.
Never been a fan of the series myself.

I played the original games for the PC and they were great though.

Ahh, never played any of the games. Didn't realize there was some expectation for the series to actually be good. That's too bad.

The game is extremely mediocre. The Marine campaign is probably the only good bit of "fun" you can have. The Alien campaign is just boring and frustrating when you get disorientated by jumping onto the ceiling so many times and out of vents. I didn't play the Predator campaign because i just returned the game for a refund.

5/10 at best.

I knew they had messed it up when I tried the demo and discovered there was an instant kill 'Fuck You' button in multiplayer. It's really too bad, AvP1 and AvP2 are two of my favorite games, if they had just not changed the winning formula this could have been my game of 2010. Alas.

I love the way they copied and pasted the same review for all 3 systems word for word. Makes me wonder if they even PLAYED all 3.

They do it a lot, I forget which game, but the PC crowd got pissed when they talked about using the 360 controller buttons in the PC review for it

The first AvP game was extremely good when it was released. The second game was decent but nowhere near the same exellence as the first. From there, AvP has gone downhill all the way. Sadly, Rebellion did one good game and then fell into some kind of mediocre game rut.

I've always been skeptical of movie-games. There's so much potential for screw ups in that formula.

Yeah, now that you mention it, it has been getting medeocre ratings. I can't pass judgement yet because I have just begun the Alien and Pred campaigns...but so far so good. Different definetely. It does a lot of Fps melee...especially with Alien and Pred in single campaign. Online...only tried the demo. The multiplayer was O.K...but I had a tough time getting the controls.

But it's not bad and its nostalgic...and why not play the game but for that reason. Well, atleast if you grew up with either franchise. It is a definite rent, and if you like it or the Aliens and Predators movies...perhaps buy it.

The story does seem a little lacking, and as far as the progress bar dictates, kinda short campaigns. But cool in the way the play control feels. The Alien movement is pretty cool, feels pretty close to how the alien moves in Alien 3.

EDIT: I wonder how many of these people complaining have actually played the real game or are actually giving it a chance. Doesn't sound like it....

I'm currently loving the demo. The controls are great, and it's faithful to the franchise. I'll be buying this game and loving it. Don't try to tell me otherwise! *shoves fingers in ears*

I love how several people here bash the game with the 'movie-to-game' stick; now that's some quality research right there. (God, I wish I had that little sarcasm icon right now...)

Expecting the gameplay to be just as 'polished' as other current-gen FPS's is faulty logic because the gameplay of the AvP series has always sold itself on being different. Got difficulty moving around on walls and ceilings? Put some damn effort into keeping up with the camera and enjoy the experience for what it is instead of whining about how Call of Duty controls more smoothly! Marines detecting you while you're cloaked? Well, tough cookies. The cloak is supposed to enhance stealth by bending light around you, not make you outright invisible.

I, for one, am having good fun with the game, the atmosphere of the old AvP games is still there, and the settings are varied enough to keep the game from feeling tedious.
I will, however, admit that the controls tend to get in the way a bit... gotta come up with alternate bindings for the keys. Oh, and whoever thought it would be a good idea to force the player to keep the mousewheel pressed in order to scale walls is officially a dunce.

I think it's a bit of a love or hate game i'm loving it at the moment myself it's been more intresting and fun than any other fps i've played in years.
problems i have with the reviews

they complain about clunky controls and combat.
I'm rather fond of this

badgraphics
i think their alright.

no iron sights no crouching.
i would barely use them plus halo has no iron sight and a terrible crouch yet it got perfect scores.

I could go on but i'm too lazy

Oh yes and i've had more fun with this than halo games or mw2

PS
i refere to mainstream titles because the reviews keep comparing avp to them

As a fan of the AVP franchise (I even made a user group here) I can't really say it's a bad game. Played the demo - IT was awesome (match making was a ***** I'll give you that) and pre-ordered the game (express delivery MY ass). What really made me get the game and I mean really like seen a picture then BAM. I was entranced. but the reason why I am geting it is as a Predator you can rip out an Aliens 'tounge' thing. That trailer = WOW.
Also what game was Game Informer playing? I'll probably do a review when I get it judging by how much I love the franchise.

It's a shame really, I saw something in it that I thought could let it deliver a good movie game and take it out of the sewage gaming's foot is trapped in now.
