Well I know xplay bashed this game pretty hard, don't know who the other 2 are though.
Yeah but I can't take xplay seriously anymore (their games of the year show was BS), so off to search for the mysterious other 2 bad reviews then.

I'm going to wait for Yahtzee to review it before picking up a copy of AvP. I know IGN gave it a pretty mediocre review, but as is well known IGN fail at pretty much everything these days. Yahtzee, I trust.

Maybe these reviewers were disgruntled PS3 owners that didn't get to try the demo?

I know I am, which is why I don't even consider buying it.
Umm..What are you talking about? I am a PS3 owner, and I got to play said Demo... Matter of fact its what caused me to buy the game. Is this a region issue? If so, I seriously suggest you make an side account for the country with the demo and try it. Yes, if you download the demo you can use it on your main account.

uh... the ps3 does have a demo.. was just playing it yesterday.
I dunno, maybe for weeks I've been trying to play online only to have it search for games for 10 minutes? Sure this has been fixed, but it's still not letting me play.

If he had explained why the reviews were fundamentally flawed, like how one of the major complaints GameInformer had was that Predators had to rely on stealth (no fucking shit; really?), it wouldn't sound like Mr. Kingsley was bitching.

As it stands, that's exactly how it sounds.

Even the full game takes a bit on matchmaking, silly you, when you have dedicated servers, it always better to browse. Trust me, browse, it takes about 20 secs, and if you don't connect once, maybe a few minutes, but nothing compared to matchmaking.

"We're also in discussions with Sega about ongoing support for AvP, and also about a sequel to the game," he continued. "I won't say what stage those negotiations are in, but we would love to revisit the franchise. Fox are excited about what we're doing, and we feel we've added value to the franchise."
NOOOO-----
good luck with that=_=

Those of you saying "you can't disregard scores" are aware that disregarding outliers is pretty common in statistical analysis, because it whacks out the data, right?

This game has been reviewed dozens of times, with most scores falling between 65-85%. those three scores are WILDLY out of synch with the rest of the reviews the game has recieved, and DO artificially drag down the average. They aren't representative of the general opinion of the game.

In that case, it's totally reasonable to ignore them to get a better look at how the game is being critically recieved.

Well, if the game's selling well, that's good. Since that means I won't have to buy it just to support the future release of Aliens: Colonial Marines.

>_>

Of course I might get this AvP3 if I ever get to finishing the first two games.

Three bad reviews what about the handful of reviews that are lukewarm at best calling it average or passable at best? It's not like they are a super good game where everyone is giving them a 9.8/10 and some twats are bringing their score down with ridiculously low scores.
The game is scoring fairly low, and 3 outliers aren't going to drop the score as much as it would a game that was overall rated highly.

If you discount those poor reviews AvP is averaging high for us.
ya don't say....

that's probably the dumbest statement i've ever read.
To be frank, if these are the reviews I'm thinking of, they complained that the Predator relied too much on stealth and the Alien was too fast.

If these reviewers think that makes a game about fast Aliens fighting stealthy Predators BAD, then they probably need complaining about, especially if they're making a significant dent in review averages.

According to Metacritic, the three 'bad reviews' were from Giant Bomb, Game Revolution and 1up.

Gamespot was another one of the trio. They didn't say anything positive at all about it.

Ah well, yes, they may be outliers, but you have to keep the perspective of the number of reviews the game is recieving and how much influence the reviewer has.

From what I've read uin this thread, the nay sayers have been Xplay, IGN, and 1up.
Those outliers have a pretty heavy influence and a large fanbase; maybe these reviews cannot be excluded as an outlier.

you would think rebellion would be used to bad reviews by now, personally i tried the demo and didn't think to much of it, but the marine campaign sounds fun from what i have heard, ill get it once the price can justify buying a game for 1/4th of it.

while looking around on metacritic to see which reviews they where talking about i saw this rather funny and all saying line from Game Revolution:

"you'd probably have more fun being on To Catch a Predator than playing Aliens Vs. Predator."

i can kinda see why rebellion are bitter.
I know yo didnt say it... But thats the lamest thing... i have ever heard... ever...

Didn't one of those bad reviews complain that the Predator sections where too focused on stealth? Or at least that's what I heard on the Angry Joe show.
Yeah, I saw that AJ video too and I facepalmed at the reviewer. I'm guessing that reviewer never played AvP2 in his life.

Or the complaint that there were too many aliens for the marine to shoot at and that the motion detector went off too much....

Man it's almost as bad as the MW2 bashing - I've read a couple of the bad reviews and tbh they all seem like they were written by kids that are scared of the dark...One was moaning the levels were dark and the flash light did shit - Yeah a 701231 lume torch wouldn't ruin the atmosphere much.

Compared to the older games it's not a lot like them which has got a lot of fanboiz crying that it's not AvP2...Which might also be a reason people are bashing it (not being arcade-y enough?)...People have gotten soft with CoD style game play.

I, personally, gave the game a bard review. Controls where bad, imo, and it didn't look very good (I know the demo only had DX9 support, but still, it didn't look good even for a DX9 game) And I was not impressed with it overall.
