I rented this game over the weekend and completed most of it. I didn't complete the Marine missions, but they were pretty boring. The Alien missions were my favs, also the shortest. It took a bit to get used to the Aliens movement, but once you do, it's great to play as. The Predator could have been a lot better.. again, it was kinda fun, but not outstanding.

I wouldn't pay full retail price for this game.

If you discount those poor reviews AvP is averaging high for us.
ya don't say....

that's probably the dumbest statement i've ever read.
To be frank, if these are the reviews I'm thinking of, they complained that the Predator relied too much on stealth and the Alien was too fast.

If these reviewers think that makes a game about fast Aliens fighting stealthy Predators BAD, then they probably need complaining about, especially if they're making a significant dent in review averages.
Or the complaint that there were too many aliens for the marine to shoot at and that the motion detector went off too much....
Ah yes! How could I forget the motion tracker going ping!

Yeah, marking a game down because it triggers a relapse of PTSD caused by watching Aliens with the lights off is definitely a dick move. Maybe it should be reviewed by an adult?

Sounds like a man focused on his next pay check rather than the studios credibility, but as his comments mean he's read those bad reviews, can't blame him for bringing them up. I've played a fair bit on the demo and the game, and I can honestly say that there are parts of the design that are sloppy and frustrating to play. Doesn't mean I'll stop playing or that I won't enjoy stalking those arrogant predators. Besides, when the game isn't perfect, it makes me look forward to the sequel all the more.

What an idiotic thing to say.

You can't just exclude the review you don't like and still talk about "average"

What you could do if you had literally hundreds of reviews is exclude a few outliers but that would go both ways, the odd extremely high score would be as likely to excluded as a very low score. There is a mathematical way of determining what is an outlier.

Well they need to learn that not everyone loves everything and not everyone takes their money.

The problem with reviews are that no matter how unbiased a person may seem, they still have person likes and dislikes and that makes them subject to opinion. And while the game AvP may be good, it shouldn't be affected by just 3 reviews, unless it's average review is so average that the 3 bad scores drag it down hard.

Companies should look at these reviews and say "what about this can we fix?" and take the good reviews and say "what from these reviews can we make sure we improve on or keep next time?" since almost every game has a sequel nowadays.

Hey AvP Studio (Sega I guess), congrats! You've created a game that people have bought and played, and all those hours you spent has made something that people are interested in, whether or not they liked it, you got your game and it's selling and people are talking about it, congrats!

Well I know xplay bashed this game pretty hard, don't know who the other 2 are though.
Gamespot was another one of the trio. They didn't say anything positive at all about it.

According to Metacritic, the three 'bad reviews' were from Giant Bomb, Game Revolution and 1up.
As well as these three.
Well, the game really isn't worth getting such low grades. It's not as if the game is shockingly bad. I'd personally settle with a seven out of ten. It's not perfect, but it does have its moments. Especially in multiplayer.

To be honest, any review giving this AvP under 60% is utter bullcrap in my opinion.

Maybe the Americans gave it bad reviews because they have gotten used to being paid/bribed/threatened-with-firing to give good reviews.

Okay, why are developers so whiny recently?

We've got ubisoft bitching about people not sucking them off for the brilliant and innovative ways they made price of persia piss easy and dull, squeenix complaining about people complaining about rigid linearity, and now the developers of a mediocre fps acting like their game is solid gold, and anyone saying otherwise is an asshole.

Seriously! What in the fuck?! You are titans of industry! Not bitchy nerds on a fanfiction forum!
I'd assume it's related to the rising development costs. Just a single unsuccessful game could put quite a dent into a long-established developer's budget.

EDIT: ...Except, maybe not Prince of Persia?

Methinks Kingsley needs to cry less.

"If you discount those poor reviews AvP is averaging high for us."
And that is officially the dumbest thing I have ever heard from a studio head.

Goddamn South Americans ruining game scores!

I think its just human to compliant about bad reviews. I what happens when something you worked for a very long time on something and then some fool comes up and straight up dissed it? I wouldnt be happy. But then what did they say? does any one have a link to them?

You can say all you want about how awesome new AvP is, all I am going to say is that humans pistol/rifle whipping aliens and predators, staying alive and well after this is enough for me to count AvP as disappointment of the year. This is easily the best way to kill the mood and setting, completely.
I'm not even going to mention how horrible controls are on PC, especially if you favor aliens.

I think one of the reviews they're thinking of is the one from Game Informer, I've recently lost my trust in GI for giving games I thought were awesome (Only BioShock 2 comes to mind) really low scores and giving games that I thought were stupid inexplicably high scores (MW2, Red Faction: Guerilla, Bayo-fucking-netta). They used to be my favorite source for reviews, now I've learned to just ignore reviews and play it for myself (Seems so obvious right?).

I can understand if Rebellion felt disappointed only three bad reviews, but to flat-out complain? They should be happy that it's only three, and that the game hasn't been labeled a complete failure. Sounds more ungrateful, to me.

That would be like if I didn't put effort into a drawing that someone commissioned me to do, and they complained about it. They have every right to complain, because I didn't do squat with the drawing. Now if I did put as much effort into a drawing to the best of my ability, and they have minor complains about it; I would feel pleased that I even got the job. Because, A: I'll view it as a learning experience. And B: I got paid for it.

It'd be interesting to see what the responses from people would have been if the headline wasn't "So and so complains about...", which was only a small snippit of what the guy said. For the most part, it seems they are fairly pleased with the reviews.

I'm sure if the headline read "So and so distraught over bias reviews", people would say those bad reviewers need to pull their heads out their asses and come up with some feasible complaints. I haven't played the game, nor have I read the reviews, but from what others have said, it sounds like the game got slammed for petty things.

I've seen a lot of reviews blatantly written just by playing the demo. And the demo sucked. The games its self isn't half bad.
