I saw the Poll on disney and thought my comment should be a thread. Well I noticed as a kid there were never any black people in disney cartoons. I just thought it was funny ,and if this offends I don't see why.

There were black characters. Think of the birds from Dumbo or Uncle Remus the story-telling slave or the apes from Jungle Book or the shoe-shining centaur thing from Fantasia...

Yup. Ol' Walt was racist alright.

I would find it more racist if they tried to incorporate every race. It's the thought that counts.

hmmmm, I suppose it was before everything had to be politicly Correct. besides in most of the Animated movie's, it was mostly set in Medieval "Europe", so any other nationally would be out of place.

All? I don't remember Snow White and the Seven Dwarves being racist. And if the pricess' name is the racist joke; you're a real jerk.
And neither was Sleeping Beauty.
Nor Bambi.
Niether was Black Cauldron (look it up!)

And Disney is not Anti-Semite, because Judaism is the only mentioned religion ever on the Disney Programs. Example; Gordo from Lizzy McQuire.

Yeah, most where set in places where if they had included blacks, it would have been out of place. I don't think just because they didn't have Blacks in their films they are racist. I don't have any Black friends, does that make me a racist? No, of course not.

I am just saying the complete lack of black people in the movie overall seems racist along with some indivdual movies. As to the snow white good catch lol

Well, they're making a movie with their first black princess now.

And what do you mean by 'classic'? Does Aladdin qualify there? Because I wouldn't call that racist.

Whoops. I did forget about him. Thanks for pointing that out. The dragon was black from Sleeping Beauty if you can squeeze a racist joke out of that as well.

Not Disney as a whole, but Walt himself. Look it up.

So? Those movies are remnants of a past and culture that concerned itself very little with racial issues. Most of them were absent of ethnic characters to begin with, rather than shoehorning in racist caricatures.

Anyways, the company you're talking about is behind That's So Raven!, Holes, and that upcoming Frog Prince movie, so if anything, they are adapting to a different media mindset in order to remain relevant, financially and otherwise. The ethnic make-up of the audience that Disney once catered to has changed dynamically, thanks, largely, to its reinvented image of serious kid/family-friendliness.

Disney is corrupt and evil! How could you call yourself a family orientated business when 80% of all your cartoons either terrify or make children cry? And yes they are racists, not in a "we hate everyone who isn't white" racist, they were more of an innappropriately pointing out stereotypes racist. But back in the olden days of Disney racism and discrimination was common place here in the USA, it's just a sign of the times. Kind of like how my grandmother thinks the word "******" is completely acceptable.

^_^ Well aren't you just splitting hairs. Next question; should a man and the company he started be treated seperate? Hmmm.
