Every writer that worked on a Half-Life title has now left Valve for fresh pastures. We really aren't going to get a Half-Life 3, are we?

And here goes any hopes of another valve game. not that we had. but this time I would like to say. RIP valve as video game developer. now they are officially digital distributor. Not only Half life 3 will never ever going to release. but also left 4 dead 3 will never going to release too.

How do you know the script isn't already finished? Gaben confirmed on Reddit a while ago that they're working on a full-fledged single player game. Of course they're still a video game developer. That article is alarmist and unprofessional.

Besides, they can hire new writers. People move on. It's normal.
that full fledge SP game could be VR game like the lab, could be browser game.

I cant believe in 2017 people still believe valve are video game developers or valve will make Half life 3.

That's quite a hopeful response after a decade of waiting. While it's true that some series can be picked up years and years later with a separate creative team (Star Trek and Doctor Who are good examples) I can't think of an instance in which this was successfully accomplished as a direct continuation to an unfinished story. Maybe it exists, I don't know.

Point is, that with the entire old writing staff having not accomplished anything more while they were there, and have no moved on from the project, there isn't a whole lot of hope left for a return of the series. Especially in anything approximating what it once was. How many more nails need to go into the coffin before we call it closed?

You could say that there won't ever be another TRUE half life since the same team won't be making it. And things tend to change when you leave something to a new team. But who knows, maybe there will be a half life 3, just not by the same team.

Valve has a long history of treating its customers well and providing good products. Long enough to make people feel if they have truly dropped the project, they'd do the right thing and tell us. Certain aspects of Steam have eroded that trust in them a bit, but there are still enough people who remember the golden days of Valve seeming like the only dev who gave a shit about making good games that this doesn't feel like a full betrayal yet.

Half Life 3 will come out at the exact moment when VR becomes good enough to allow a true AAA title. Half Life games are tech demos with nice gameplay, that's why no third part has come out, tech on first person games has been stagnant ever since physics engines were introduced.

It's true that Valve is working on three VR games, but:

"Newell said his teams had tried to create VR games based on Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2, but that they weren't fun on the VR platform."

Don't count on Half-Life 3 being one of them.

Can we finally just accept that Half-Life will never be finished and move on?

Valve's last release was Dota 2, which officially released in 2013, and not a peep since then.

Valve makes way too much money off Steam to be motivated to develop.

Silly person. Valve doesn't make games. Why would they need writers?

Half-Life 2 ended on a cliff-hanger. Star Trek did not, and TNG did not start off where TOS left off. Bones cameos as being over 100.

But if we do that, then it -will- come out...and it will be bad, and we will not be happy about it, and we will wish it never came out to begin with!

I agree there are still plenty of people who remember those "golden days", but being able to remember those days doesn't mean they're still the same company with the same priorities.

That company had to make good games to make a profit. This one can just gorge itself on Steam profits.

You kidding? Half Life 3's coffin is literally nothing but nails at this point.

Anyway, here's a video I have a compulsory need to post every time someone talks about Valve making games again.
