The problem is not that people are unable to achieve good, it's that goodness itself is subjective.
For example, I personally enjoy hunting and fishing. When I catch a fish, I can feed people with it.
When I successfully hunt an animal, I can feed people with it and or make stuff from the skin and bones to sell later.
I see my success at hunting/fishing as a good thing, but the animal rights crowd abhors that sort of thing.
One's viewpoint simply isn't able to be comprehended by someone with the opposite viewpoint.
That's why I live my life with balance in mind instead of good. For all the good I do, the order I create, and the peace I keep, I create evil/chaos/conflict, and vice versa. Well, that and because my balanced lifestyle doesn't cause change so I don't attract attention to myself and my plans can be executed with minimal hindrance.
