I have bought two PS3's and about four 360's. Trust me, the PS3 is not intended for gaming. At all. It is the console to own if you own one because of it being a media beast. You can copy just about everything.

I'm guessing that games you can download on the PSN are same as on XBL?

Additionally, can you get the old Final Fantasy games? I'm sure a friend of mine had them but I may have dreamt that...

You'll have many a fun time here on the Sony side.

For space, you'll want to buy the cheapest model you can, along with your own hard drive. There are fairly cheap 2.5 inch (the kind that fit in laptops) drives on the market. Hell, they even come in terabytes now, though the PS3 can only register 2TB to my knowledge.

This way, if you choose, you can store all of your media as well as what you would normally have on the console in terms of saves and downloaded games/content.

Would putting an SSD in there boost performance?

I've seen several videos about this and i think the industry consensus is that because of interface issues it doesnt speed it up by any measurable margin.

That's a shame, from what I've seen of it's capabilities, if they optimized it it would do wonders for loading times.

Different strokes for different folks. It depends on what games you prefer playing. Fast-paced multiplayer: 360. Single-player: PS3.

Oh yeah, no question. The 360 is a good multiplayer and party console, but the PS3 can really give some amazing single-player experiences. Also, I have to say that the PS3 has more great exclusives (that I can recall). Of course, it all depends on personal taste, but these are the games and franchises that have been well-reviewed (off the top of my head).
