I get that, not in gaming, but in pool. I'm quite good, but some days I'll be on fire all day, then I'll play one too many games and will miss the easiest shots for like 3 games. Its frustrating beyond belief.
My friend is a funny one at pool. He always gets several ahead of me near the start but can't pot the black to save his life.
That's because when you are several ahead and on the black you have to navigate the other player's balls. Its much easier for the other player to catch up as well because they have an "open table".

I'd have to say leading 49-48-30 in a multi-team match on Halo 3. We were on isolation and everyone was on the top by the shotgun. Anyway my partner and I get killed with one kill to win and respawn underneath the ground in the tunnels. The team with 48 takes that time to kill off the remaining two players and we lose.

Guild Wars survivor title. 500 or so experience to go out of the 1.3 million or so needed and I get mobbed and brutally killed because of another players uselessness, wasting a months hard work. I didn't play for about 3 weeks and I still blame the guy and remind him how useless he is every half hour.

I experienced this countless times on the Jacknife speedrun in Mirrors Edge. Eleven minutes of hell.
This and some of the other speedruns and challenges. So goddamm close! The good thing is that Jacknife is by far the hardest of the speedruns.

The one that first comes to mind for me was playing The Orange Box, more specifically Half-Life 2 Episode 2 as the Neighborhood Watch achievement. For this you had to protect all of the buildings from being destroyed by the striders and hunters. I would always be so close to the end until something stupid like, a log or a dead body would slow my car down and result in the building beings destroyed. After a total of, and yes this is the actual number, 33 tries I finally got the achievement.
Speaking of that achievement, is it actually possible to save the Sawmill, or does it have to go for the story? Because that's always gone in 30 seconds.

It was too long ago to remember but you could probably find the answer on youtube or something.

Playing Unreal Tournament 2004 I had one of these. There's an Assault mission which requires you to fight your way into a factory and destroy this giant generator. I was on the attacking team, and we hadn't been doing too well--we were down to the last 30 seconds, but managed to fight our way into the final room. After blasting at the generator for a while I was taken out by an enemy, respawned, grabbed a rocket launcher, ran out in to the central room with two seconds remaining, and, seeing the generator down to about 2% of its total health, fired the rocket, only to have the time run out before the rocket hit the core. On the freeze-frame screen announcing we'd lost, you could see the rocket about a foot away from colliding with the generator. Ergh.

I was trying to get Akimbo Assassin on L4D, I'm on the finale, and I just killed the second Tank. I heal up, then a hunter jumps out me and I whip out a SMG and fire off 2 rounds on accident. And the worst part is, they BOTH MISSED. Goddamnit.
Dude, I have YET to get through an entire campaign without friendly fire. I was stepping on the freaking boat once, and Francis decides to step back off of the boat as I'm laying down some cover fire and stick his elbow in front of my 9mm. Friendly fire and then cutscene. I swear to god I wanted to choke something soft and furry at that moment.

L4D on the second mission. I was playing with a friend splitscreen and he isn't very good. Not his fault since he doesn't have alot of experience with the controller and had never played it before. Everytime he would leave me hangin on the other side of the bridge and I would die. So I was playing with the old lady and we finally made it to the end. Boat was there we were bookin towards it and boom tank. I am trying to lay down some cover fire to get everyone in and of course I died. 1 second cost me the level.

Playing the end of Far Cry 2 in the Heart of Darkness - which was quite frustrating, but I had to finish the game - and had just completed a rather difficult firefight with several mercenaries. Glad I was finished with the ordeal, and nearly halfway through the Heart, I started sprinting to the objective... and then pressed "crouch".

I kneeslided off a cliff to my death. And my buddies were all dead. I haven't touched the game since. Fuck you, Far Cry 2.

Fuck you.
lol...you did not save, you have a nervous finger and blame it on the game?

There are so many of this kind of thread. umm... recently i was playing armored core 4, when on the last mission on the hardest mode i stupidly equipped a gun. I had always used blades and ive beatn this level on an easier mode with blades before. needless to say, with a sword and gun i got raped by the stupid multifunctional god forsaken minigun the boss had

I was playing Devil May Cry 4 on Hell and Hell mode. (Basically, you die in one hit, but you have 3 Gold Orbs that revive you when you die, so you technically have 4 "lives.") Mission 16 took me several tries before I was even able to reach the boss, Berial. I would usually make it to him with 1 orb left, nearly kill him before dying.

One time, I made it to him, still having all 3 orbs, only to get killed/hit 4 times. Needless to say, I busted out the rageahol.

I was trying to get the No-Friendly-Fire achievement on Left 4 Dead on No Mercy. I had made it all the way to the end, everyone was on the Helicopter, except for Francis. I aim to shoot a Smoker that is about to snag somebody, and then, of course, Francis jumps in the way like the happy, achievement ruining bastard that he is.

It was horrible watching the credits and it saying that everyone had no friendly-fire, except for me. Once. At the end. I nearly broke my controller in frustration.
