I've bought it this morning but I didn't take the time to install it yet. Instead i installed Kane and Lynch 2, I bought it for cheap a couple of months ago on steam and totally forgot about it...

kinda wish I hadn't remembered. hopefully Alpha protocol is better.

This is why I hate Steam. They offer a game for 2 bucks. I can't resist and buy it. Then they offer another one, another one and another one. Eventually I end up having spent 500 bucks on games, half of which I've never had any interest in and will likely never play.

Hell, for what that game is it's a pretty good deal. I won't be getting though simply because I've beaten it completely already and my PC probably couldn't run it.

Forget AP, Sonic 3 and Knuckles is $1.24.
And Company of Heroes has got all three games for ten bucks.

WHAT IS WITH PEOPLE SAYING IT'S NOT WORTH IT AT $2.

IT'S TWO BLOODY DOLLARS! There is no concievable situation you could be in where you are able to use the internet, and yet consider spending two dollars on a AAA title not worth your money.

Alpha Protocol is a great game. GREAT! Yes, the boss fights are out of place and annoying. So are the ones in Deux Ex: Human Revolution, but that didn't stop every member of this forum from ejaculating all over the screen at the mere mention of it, so stop being such a bunch of cheap wankers, and buy the damn game!

I bought it when I saw the price.

I figure for $2 if I am let down there will be at least 2 buck worth of enjoyment in there somewhere.

Can't really be let down by a 2 dollar game.

Have they patched the game or do I need to search out the work arounds? I am downloading as I type so I figure best to book mark the bug fixes while it is on my mind.

All of the "Total War" games are on sale too, seriously, those are much more deserving of your money than alpha protocol

Oh yea and Company of Heroes is on sale for 2 bucks too, that's even more worth it than the Total War games!

Bonus poitns to people that read this in Christopher Walkens voice or Gilbert Gottfrieds voice.
I read it in david letterman's voice if that counts for anything (his top ten list).

OT: for dollars, yeah, its a good game. it wasnt worth the full price (to me at least) but i would have paid something like 5 or 10. So yeah, for 2, thats a bargain. Its not a great game, but its about an average game.

EDIT:

I mean, what's the worst that can happen? You don't like it? It's only 2 dollars! What ELSE can you buy with 2 dollars!? Maybe a coke?
At least if I buy a coke, the Coca Cola company can't decide they don't like something nasty I posted on a forum and take it back.
No, instead they'll sue you into third world poverty for libel/slander ;)

I already bought AvP with money I should probably desperately try to save until my Student loan comes through.
I'm a bad, bad boy.
I highly doubt that your budget is in such a place where the five dollars that AvP cost would be the dealbreaker on your student loan.

That said, I think I'm gonna get Alpha Protocol for myself and a couple friends because just getting lunch these days costs like 3 or 4 costs of this game.

Seriously. Just stop what you are doing, and go buy Alpha Protocol. It's a great game. Sure, it might be a little rough around the edges, but once you can get past that, you will be rewarded. It has a lush and incredibly dialogue system: each conversation is interesting, deep, and complex. If you want to see how conversations are done in games, then go play it. It's also one of the very few games that actually DELIVERS on the promise that "every action has a consequence," since the game will change radically depending on how you treat characters and behave in missions (it can tell if you are a stealthy or guns blazing person :O). Just remember that it's NOT a shooter with RPG elements, but an actual RPG. You do have to increase your skill in weapons if you want to use them. You can't just magically equip a pistol and headshot everyone.

I mean, what's the worst that can happen? You don't like it? It's only 2 dollars! What ELSE can you buy with 2 dollars!? Maybe a coke?
Merci beaucoup! I was about to call it a night till I saw your post. Now am gonna try the game before I go to sleep.

Thank you for the heads up! 2 dollars is an amazing price for that game. I played it on 360 about a year ago when I got it from GameFly and enjoyed the hell out of it. Not sure why people hate it so much. Whatever, I own it now. Thanks Stall!

I hate shooters. Sell it to me now. :p

For the same $2, I could get Crazy Taxi (okay, $2.24). I could get DLC for a Total War game I enjoy more. There are a lot of really good games on the Sega sale list that I would happily buy before a shooter.

I saw this sale on Steam and thought about buying it. Seeing this thread made me rewatch reviews of the game (including Zero Punctuation) and I decided to buy it. Hope it's good or you owe me $2!

Oh. Um, well, uh, hrm.

It's not really a shooter. The shooting is there, but it's not like CoD or Halo where the shooting is the focus. It's more like Mass Effect. The gameplay in ME is actually quite weak and uninteresting, but nobody bought the game for that, they bought it for the role-playing and conversations and stuff. Same with Alpha Protocol (although in my opinion the combat is somewhat better than that in ME).

I wish I could say that you can use hand to hand combat and talking instead of shooting - and you bloody should've been able to, it's the kind of game for it - but there's bound to be at least some gunplay, especially with the bosses (which is the game's biggest flaw).

If you genuinely 'hate' shooters, both 1st and 3rd person ones, then I suppose you won't like the game. If that's the case, though, I wouldn't blame the game; it's simply not for you. But if you played and liked games like Mass Effect or Deus Ex: Human Revolution despite not liking shooters, you'll almost certainly like Alpha Protocol.
