Alright, I'll finally get around to beating this game...oh crap, should I restart it?

Or should I go from the part I had gotten to when I first started playing it?

Does this ever happen to you guys? What do you do? I want to beat Assassin's Creed 2, but I'm probably more than halfway through from the playthrough I had started. Problem is, I have no idea of what's going on in the story, and as far as a progression of difficulty, I have to start in the middle. Ugh.

I l;eve games for far too long, when I restart I get fed up and don't get as far as I did the last time.
On a similar note, I'm procrastinating about Fallout: New Vegas and if I should dial down the hardcore mode or leave it a start afresh.

Dialing down hardcore mode actually doesn't affect he games real difficulty. Hardcoremode makes you have to drink and eat, which is easy, given the fact that there is a blasted refigerator every ten steps, and hardcore mode limits the amout of garbadge that you can carry around.

It does NOT in any way affect the angry deathclaw that is busy reloscating you spine. Combat is still tuned by the normal difficulty, as it was in fallout 3, and you can tune that down to vegetable-level, if you see fit, and still beat the game "hardcore"

So hardcore-mode should be read as RPG-Hardcore.

I did that with FF8, bumbled through the game too quickly and wound up on the third disk completely underpowered. 18 hours of gametime wasted. But at least it gave me an excuse to replay the cool Dollet mission.

Yeah, that's happened to me lots of times. I have a fair amount of patience, though and I usually end up restarting.

This has left a lot of games unfinished.

Yeah, happens to me quite often, last time with Mass Effect 2. It depends on how much I remember from the story, but there's a middle ground: why not take a save game that's a bit older, let's say if you're 50% through, start at 40%. That way, you'll be reminded of what happened shortly before your current save, but you don't have to replay everything.

Funny how you make this thread just as I get off Uncharted after playing it again months after I got about a quarter way through on Crushing.

Depends how far I've got through the game. If I've only done a few levels or not done any particularly difficult things, I just start again.
But on Uncharted, I'd done the sewer part on Crushing. Like hell I'm doing that again.

I've done that today with a book.
About six months ago I was reading Dorian Gray, and got about halfway through and got into something else. Now I wonder if I should go back to the start, but honestly, I'd rather just finish it.

I have so many Rome - Total War saves just because of this...

I must have played through the first century of each house at least half a dozen times.

Strangely, I never get tired of it. Hurrah for RTW!

I've never done this, but if you don't understand the story i'd recomend restarting. Especially if your going to play Assassins Creed: Brotherhood

You could keep your save file and start a new one till to relearn the ropes and skip ahead to where you were on the older file. You should also have some markers or a quest log of sorts to say where to go next.

I do it all the time l, as I have a really short attention span when games are concerned. Most recently I went back to Fallout 3 and started again because I couldn't remember what I'd done or not done.

I also did it with Oblivion, GTA4, Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

No not really, I usually have enough memory left to piece what already happened back together when returning to a game.
This is the same for me. Plus the majority of stories are pretty simplistic to begin with so if I don't entirely remember, I can still figure it out. Not that I play video games for the story, I usually ignore them, unless it pleasantly surprises me and is good for once.

I'm currently in the middle of completing Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2, Black Ops, Lost Odyssey, Ninja Blade, Dead Space and some others. I haven't played any of them (with the exception of Black Ops) in over 3 months, and if I picked them up and resumed playing I'd know what was going on.

This is one of my biggest problems in gaming.

I am not sure why. If I were to consult astrology, it would be because of my Aries nature. Great starter, horrible finisher.
Astrology is all bollocks, though, so let's just forget about that.

Strangely enough, it is Bioware games this happens the most in. More specifically the Mass Effects.
Which is a shame because I pretty much love the crap out of them. I am just so fed up of all the parts near the start.
