This is why.

And some people want to play without lag/griefing/everything wrong with human nature interfering with their experience.

Playing Diablo singleplayer is like playing Chess singleplayer in that you can do it but it won't be much fun.
If people didn't have fun playing Diablo single-player this wouldn't be being talked about at all

i tend to agree.

but, near as i can figure, people are pissed cause they didn't 'reskin' D2.

or the whining over the 'pay to win' AH as if it will actually be required, OR, that at any point you will be in direct competition with some one else even while solo.

those people make me giggle, as they have no idea what a real pay-to-win market place looks like

i'm actually feeling kinda of 'meh' over all, not good, but not bad

as to the rest of the your post.

why? its more then likely the same crap people have been bitching about every time the games comes up 'there's no offline' 'the AH is pay-to-win' 'there's no mod support' and a few more that just sound like whining cause your not getting D2 with better textures

boo, whoo.

i don't care, Diablo never interested me before, so i don't give any kind of crap about what they 'took out' for this one. but feel free to keep whining, some one might care, just not Blizzard, or me.

Good work on making up stuff that has no connection. You made me giggle, you seem to have no idea what this discussion is like.

People are acting like it's an inconvenience, and like it's not a necessary one. Stop with the hyperbole.
maybe they should relax then

What made up problems? The topic title is about always online, the OP is about always online, the discussion so far has been about always online, you came here and actually made up other points nobody had brought up. And besides, I don't care about D3 at all, I just found that OP used some really shoddy arguments to prove nothing.

What happens when the company supporting the servers for the always-online DRM goes under?

What'll happen to the game? The most likely scenario, is that everyone's shit out of luck.

Just remember, last year THQ was doing pretty well. Look at 'em now. It is a very strong possibility that that could be any company.

Also, this [http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=1680] is a good read.

It would have been nice to play this game on holiday, or when taking long coach journeys.
I know somebody who went to the midnight launch last night. He said it was a pretty fun experience, but ultimately pointless, because he hasn't been able to play it until now.

Don't forget this either [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/experienced-points/9168-Diablo-III-Has-Single-Player-Online].

In fact, that article explains perfectly why I won't be buying D3 full price, plus the fact that I didn't think Diablo 2 was worth a full-price purchase either. D3 seems to be the same thing with more inconveniences.

Yet, why is it a problem when a game like Diablo 3, requires you to be on-line all the time?
Very simple, right now, there are millions of people who have paid for Diablo 3, but can't play it, at all, not even single player. Apparently this is a perfectly acceptable way to sell a videogame nowadays.

'Always online' systems place your entire ability to play the game into the hands of someone else, namely the publisher. Once the publisher decides it doesn't want you to play anymore (or hasa technical issue), you're in the shit. Relying on the good will of publishers is not a good way to play games, they already kill off the online portions of (the majority of) their releases within two years, now we're being expected to take that kind of crap in the single player releases too.

I have a whole bunch of games more than two years old, not all of them were commercial successes but I still like to play them.

that the 'always online' is an issue worth whining about, that made up problem.

since, ya know, it not -.- people have been going on and on about it, and its a 'mountain/molehill' kinda thing far as I'm concerned, and that all the railing against it seems to steam from nostalgia tinted goggles for D2.
