I beat Super Mario Bros. on the NES in the week after Christmas '88 when I first got the system. The first game I remember being really, completely thrilled to beat was Mike Tyson's Punch-Out! two months later because even though my friends got the game before I did, I was the first kid in the neighborhood to beat Tyson. Everyone else thought it was impossible, but I was beating him an amazing 15% of the time! One in seven, that was "l33t" in 1989.

That was one game worthy of taking a polaroid of the TV after beating, I remember, it took me forever to beat it.

To tell ya the truth, it was really DOOM for the computer online with my dad.
I was like... 6?
Now i'm wondering how the hell i managed to play it with my dad without failing too much, I guess that explains why i'm good at First Person Shooters...

That was actually the first online game I ever played. It showed me the glory of killing someone being immediately followed by shit talking.

I don't remember. Maybe dragon warriors, but I think it was something else. Also, I am angry at people who think harder = better, and your argument seems to reflect that. Just a note though, as I'm too tired to say anything else.

It was some Croc Platformer on the Gameboy color. I'm not sure how old I was at the time, but I know I had been playing for a while. I'm not sure how I felt at the time, but I think I was surprised. Surprised that there wouldn't be more to play, it never occurred to me that there would be an ending. I relished the ending credits.

Zelda, Link's Awakening I think. I could never beat the end boss when I was young until I finally managed it. then I was disappointed that the ending was little more than 'you're back on your boat' and you see a really stupid looking whale. Also I had no idea who Zelda was since this was the first Zelda game I played and she doesn't appear in this one (though there's a substitute) so why Link wanted to get back to here was a mystery to me (still is now I know who she is).

Mega Man 2!
It was pretty hard, but it had passwords in case you ran out of lives! :D
It felt good. I had finished the game al by myself, and it had been quite a challenge. I didn't think "this is the first game I've finished!", it was pretty natural. And then I felt that needed another game (good thing that back then Mega Man 3 was already out).

(It was one of the very first games I ever played: Duck Hunt, Macross, Mario Bros. and Mega Man 2). Never actually finished a Mario game until I got Mario Bros. 3 quite a bit later.

Super Mario Bros arcade machine. Yeah I was young and we had to use the laundromat. That and excite bike where the only things there, so needless to say my mom would give me a fistful of quarters to shut me up and keep me in one place for the couple of hours we where there every week. Sure the things where very old by the time I played them but I loved every minute. Soon enough after that I got me an NES and finally beat that cursed life sucking game. I played loads of games on the Atari, but most of those did not have ends.

The only game I beat with a surprise ending was Tetris. I was surprised that it had one.

Pokemon? I dunno. For a console game, probably... shit, I dunno. All I can remeber playing on my Gamecube was Robotech, and I know I didn't finish that. For a computer game, Sonic, for Windows 98. Oh-yeah.

I got Crash Bandicoot when it first came out. There was no save feature, but there was unlockable codes, similar to NES Metroid. I got to Pinstripe before the game got too hard for me.

Also, does anyone remember Skullmonkeys for the Playstation? I beat that ************.

That's all I can remember for those types of games. My memory goes back as far as the late 90's.

All the way through? I believe it was Popeye on the Atari 2600 [http://classicgaming.gamespy.com/View.php?view=GameMuseum.Detail&id=241].
If it wasn't that then Super Mario Bros.
