- Get most excited about emulation when building new PCs
- Spend more time gaming on the PC than any other system
- Am a heavy emulation enthusiast and prefer playing console games on the PC to PC games
- To a lesser extent, follow indie gaming in general
The fact you game on the PC more makes you a PC gamer. The other stuff makes you an emulation enthusiast which is a type of PC gamer. So yes, you are a PC gamer.

Also, great avatar. My wife loves Pinky.

I wouldn't call a 6870 high end. I'd say it's the best of the mid range cards of the 6000 series.

The way I see it, if you do it you are it. You can be a console gamer and a PC gamer at the same time.

What I find funny is that every thread talking about PC gaming contains more peopel making fun of this theoretical egotistical PC gamer than any actual PC gamer coming in and acting like that.
I completely agree. People never say "glorious pc gamer master race" seriously but people always seem to think they do. The fact they "pre-empt" these "elitists" in such large volumes is quite funny.
It's just an exaggeration of all the people who say consoles are ruining gaming and that console games are ugly neither of which is true of course.

Simple.

Do you play games on PC? If yes, you're a pc gamer.

None of this overcomplex master race BS, its a simple question.

one thing i'm sure about is that i, you and many others here are gamers. doesn't matter on which console, genre, or preferred way of playing, we all love games. i really don't see why it should matter which console you prefer. i play on the pc, on the xbox 360 and on the DS. i don't "hate" or see a gap between ps3 players. they have games i would like to play, but can't. but if you only play on ps3, there are enough other stuff we share and like. so again, what does it matter?

Do you play games on a PC? Yes? PC Gamer then.

Oh and PC Gamers frequently boast of Minecraft and Indie opportunities that Console Gamers miss out on.
360 gamers got hold of Minecraft yesterday, although it's missing quite a few bells and whistles compared to the PC version. I think the 360 version is 1.5 or 1.6, so we're missing a few things. We're also missing the hunger bar and they added a recipe chart type thing on the crafting table, so you know what you need for everything you make.

Although PC does have the better Indie market, 360's Indie market is flooded with Minecraft clones. :p

OT: Yes.
Probably.
Close to perfect Minecraft then, I think my favorite was 1.8 or so, the update with the shears. A recipe chart? So what do you use the wiki for then?

uhh..I guess?

does it really matter?
I dunno, gamers seem to make a big deal out of being a "PC gamer".
*sigh*..you really want to go down that road?..ok then

to earn the certified title of "PC gamer" as defined by the "Council of the Glorious PC gaming master race" you must pass 3 trials

1. you must build a computer from a box of scraps while being held captive in a cave, with a strict time limit (also I hear there are terrorists and if you dont do it withint he time limit somone gets shot)

2. you must pass an exam detailing computer componets..builds, with an extensive section on games themselfs, including history and details on how to beat said games

3. you must master serval complex games on highest diffuculty, and play for 5 days straight, I'm told this is monitored by a member of the council

I was unable to sit the trails due to me owning and gaming on a laptop..this is frowed upon by the council
I have done none of these, yet I play my games on a PC. I only make a big deal out of it in threads were such things are encouraged or when I feel like trolling.

I technically prefer the PC for gaming.
You're a PC Gamer.

The PC is kind of an incestuous platform that allows for many ports, and emulators, and input devices. As you've clearly discovered. I don't care if all you do is play racing games with a big wheel, or flight simulators with a carefully modeled airplane cockpit, or JRPGs with a game pad. If you're playing them on a PC, you're a PC Gamer.

It sounds like you're console friendly as well, which is good. Getting polarized into loving one platform and decrying all others is a little silly.

If you use a PC to play video games then yes you are a PC gamer. Despite what the vocal minority who think they are better than everyone else because they can recite the code of their motherboards BIOS may try to tell you and everyone else. Fuck those guys I say they are part of the problem with PC gaming having fewer people than consoles.

What makes the PC so great is how flexible it is. You don't have to like JUST playing with the keyboard and mouse, playing rts or fps games, wrpgs which are more common to the pc than consoles or only playing pc exlucives etc. You can enjoy the pc in any combination of games or peripherals as you desire but the fact remains that you are gaming on the pc, you game on it most often and you enjoy it. Thus making you a PC gamer as you don't really fit in another category, rather you fit in a unique sub-category of pc gaming, one which you created yourself simply by playing and enjoying pc games the way you do. Due to the near endless flexibility of the PC there are countless such categories; the point-and-click adventure gamers who like to play with the mouse but also enjoy playing rpgs on the pc with gamepads, the typical wow and mmorpg addicted gamers, the first person shooter and rts fans, simulator fans who like the joystick, etc. Not great examples I know, all i'm trying to say is that yes you are a pc gamer but you are not the stereotypical FPS, RTS,WRPG or MMORPG playing kind.

Pretty much! I consider myself a PC gamer, but I own an Xbox, a Wii and a 3DS. And I enjoy playing games that aren't on the PC and so on and so forth.

Enjoy the best of both worlds, and don't get tied down by labels, no one is going to judge you if you buy an xbox game while claiming to be a pc gamer, in fact, no one cares.
It's what I do as well. I have a PS3 for the small collection of titles, mostly MGS which is the only reason I own a PS3, but I buy everything for PC if I have the option.

I think the distinction that we could make is that a PC gamer is also a hardware enthusiast, which I am :D

The 6870 drags you down a few points
What if you have a pair of them crossfired like I do? Do you lose double points or do two negatives make a positive?
Still -5 but +1 per extra card in SLI/XFire.

You have a point but i didn't want to seem elitist. Also if I knew Asus put in stickers with the MB I would have got one of those. I do think liquid cooling should give more points though. It's just so geeky.
And not really needed any more.

The average person doesn't need it and few games at the moment will take advantage of an "extreme" overclock.

The fact you can easily OC an IB/SB chip to 4.5ghz on air shows water isn't really needed as much any more.
Yes but can you do 5.5Ghz? You're right of course, but it's still very geeky even with the H60.

If it's for gaming then you are disqualified.

People who buy Xeons for gaming need to be slapped.
Xeons from Q1 2010 no less. And only 2 x 120GB SSDs. for that price I'd expect 1TB at least. And tits, for that price I would expect Hally Berrys tits was included. I'd prefer 1TB SSDs though if I had to choose.

I am suprised you spend so much money on PCs rather than second hand console hardware.

I guess for once it's more convenient to use a PC for this kind of thing? I do find it rather strange though. It does speeak for the functionality and versitality of PCs though.

Although that has nothing to do with whether you're a PC gamer. It doesn't really matter. You play games on the PC. You're a PC gamer.

Bah.

What are the rules regarding an all AMD/ATI system? Surely I get extra points for that?

I've got a hexcore CPU ffs, surely that's worth plenty of nerd points.

No offense, but that's retarded.
