Am I an oddity?

I need to know if I'm sort of oddity (or rarity) amongst teenagers in general, or just my friends.

I'm 17 years old. I don't do drugs, and never have done drugs of any sort. I plan to keep myself clean of illicit substances for my entire life. Even weed. I have never smoked, and the only smoke I have inhaled would be second hand smoke. I plan to never smoke. I only started drinking earlier this year, and even then only small amounts. If I go to a party with alcohol, as I often do, I'll have generally one drink and leave it at that, while everyone around me gets more and more smashed.
I don't have a part time job of any sort, and have never had one. I also cannot drive, and have not even gone for my Learner's, even though one can do that here in Australia at age 16. I'm over 17 and a half.

I'm just curious, and probably wrong, but I'm a rarity amongst my friends. Almost all have part time jobs. Almost all drink much more than me. I have quite a few friends that smoke, and a small number that get stoned. Even one who walked into school one morning just after snorting high quality cocaine.

Even my girlfriend, who is very similar to me, drinks more than me, has smoked before, and has even tried weed on two occasions.

EDIT: For the last effing time, this is NOT a "Am I the only one?" thread! I hate those threads. This is simply me, wondering if I am simply a rarity/oddity in my friendship group, or among teenagers in general. Just, me, wondering. Nothing more. I don't think I'm special or different or something new entirely. I merely wondered if I was in the minority, and so ASKED.

If you're an oddity, so am I. I never have, nor do I plan to try any drugs or anything like that, among my friends this makes me an oddity too. Power to the oddities!

I wouldn't say you're an oddity. You chose how you wanted to be.

Teenagers are just hyped up by the media to be all smokers/drinkers/users when in reality it's a very small number.

I may partially fit into what the papers constantly go mad about >.>

But lots and lots of teenagers don't.

And I'm 17 and haven't learnt to drive yet... I'm too lazy to get started.

I'm just like that-17, Aussie, no drinky, no drugy. The only difference id that I don't have a girlfriend and never have (I'm a very, very cynical person) and I do have my L's, but I don't give a toss about driving.

It's not odd to want to avoid illicit substances. And I'm pretty sure you're not alone in not having a part time job, or your L's. You've still got plenty of time to do both.

I have to agree with RatRace, I would be an oddity... which is starting to make this seem less odd. So don't worry about, and congrats and the awesome life choices you have made for your self.

Lots of people thinkin smoking is disgusting, myself included.

As for drinking i like to when im out, i couldnt have just one though but i take fitness very seriously so i don't over do it.

and Driving, well you can start here when you turn 17 which i did and passed a few months later, i really wanted to be able to drive.

Quite a lot of people here say they'll never "sin" against their body or mental health. Of course, most of the people here are still young and naive.

If you were an alcohol-fuelled psychonaut who tends to have loads of one night stands with no desire to experience 'Hollywood Love', then you'd be the oddity around here.

I've never smoked or drank, or did any other drugs. I've only recently gone for my liscense (after nagging by my parents), and the main reason I work is because it's the only way I get to see one of my best friends (she works 11:00-10:00 at least 6 days a week).

No. I never did drugs either, and I know tons of people who didn't do any of that at your age too. You're not a rarity, or an oddity. You're just not the majority.

It depends: which answer were you looking for?

I could say, "Yeah, you're weird as hell for not smoking or drinking at all. Weirdo." But then I'd be hypocritical because I've never smoked (either cigarettes or weed). In which case, I'd say, "No you're not weird at all - just different."

So, which answer do you want to hear? Because it's all a matter of perspective, you are both, simultaneously, like an unobserved quantum wave.

People like that just tend to keep their volume down so they`re not easily noticed, but they do exist. I am kind of the same. I have never smoked anything (drugs, cigarettes) and I have never drank alcohol. I am also planning to keep it that way.

I will be getting a license, for purely practical reasons, as soon as I can. The distances here are so long that a car is necessary. If that wasn`t the case I`d be perfectly happy with my bicycle.

Also no part time job.

I have never smoked or done any kind of illegal drug. I also have never done any of that 'legal high' crap either. I do drink though, i love me a pint of Guinness or a decent cider.

Were not oddities, we are just the other half of the population. Like the ones who know how to turn on a computer. As for alcohol..that's just personal preference. If I wanted to drink alcohol, i'd skip a few years of the process and just drink a pint of poison - same end result.
