Am I colorblind?

So I ask this: I stumbled upon the Wikipedia page for colorblindness and looked at the Ishihara test there

I can only see 21 (it's supposed to be 74), which means that I'm colorblind. WTF?! I'm 16 years old and now I find out? What do you guys see? This is freaking me out.

Seeing 21 doesn't make you colorblind, it just means some of your colors are off. Which is actually fairly common. And if I'm looking at this right you aren't seeing some of your greens the way you should be.

Yeah, the "arm" of the four is slightly forest green, so if you can't see that, than that would be the color you are blind to.

God damn those things hurt my eyes. I can see the 74, but I always wince and my eyes water up whenever I look at these.

I see 74, but you reading it as 21 doesn't mean that you're colorblind. Might just be partial colorblindness, like how one of my friends can't see various shades of red.

Go get a real test. Most school nurses have the little cards for "screening" only a real doc can diagnose you. Stop by tomorrow and figure it out. Better to find out now then when your halfway to a dream career. See Little Miss Sunshine.

Yeah, you're partially colorblind. Red-green most likely, but so am I.

Currently there's no cure if it's inherited, however they have been doing tests on monkeys which might one day be used in humans.

One day it may be a simple procedure. A man can dream. Hell, if they started looking for human test subjects, I would do this shit for free.

Go find a holly bush or a picture of one

verify from others that there are red berries on it

People with your kind of colourblindness have difficulties seeing the clear reddy parts of this camo as it is.

Actually, I see the red parts very well.

Odd, I know people that get the same results on that test, that were unaware that camo had any red on it whatsoever.

Thinking more about this made me remember something. Some time ago my mother told me to put on my grey jacket, and I had no idea what jacket she meant. After arguing that I had no such jacket, I realised what she meant. I always referred to it as the green jacket. Perhaps related?

I thought it was 24. I can see the 7 now that I know, but not at first.

I remember people doing those tests in highschool and people finding out they were colour blind. A lot of guys are at least partially colour blind.

Personally I've got amazing colour distinction, I've done tests where you arrange colours by shade as they transition from one colour to another and got perfect. And I see 74 there.

It could be that you're slightly colour blind, or your monitor might just be crappy or on poor settings.

I'm not particularly confident that I see anything I'd call letters or numbers unless I look at it pretty hard for a while, and then I can make an educated guess and be half wrong. Not just with that one, but most of the other images they use for that, too. Yup, I'm partly color-blind. No one ever really noticed, including me, until I was at least 20 (which was...a while ago). If it's not so bad that it gets in the way on a regular basis (and if it were, you would've noticed a long time ago), it's not really a big deal for much. It's minorly annoying now and then if someone chooses colors really poorly for an interface and doesn't have any other way to tell things apart like shapes or textures, but 99% of the time I'm not even aware of it. It's surprisingly common in guys, and most of them don't have many problems, either.

To be fair, it really comes across as more of an optical illusion than anything else, especially with the specific numerical shapes and specific dot patterning. It's also much more clear on a black background (The white tends to 'bleed' across other colors, changing the way they're perceived.).

For Demonstration Purposes, see which of the following is easier.

Each color indicates either a 71 or a 74 depending on how you perceived the shades of green.
