So, I've been lurking on the site viewing both the content and forums since July and I finally registered and realized...I'm not enjoying myself on these forums. I've only managed one other comment because the threads seem less interesting the second I click on the dialogue box.

It could be that I prefer to watch from a distance rather than actually participate but the watching thing has gotten old.

So, in an attempt to find enjoyment: What is your favorite thing about these forums?

Not really sure anymore, used to be my strong ties to the community but after that fell through there is really nothing to keep me here.

To be honest I prefer 4chans several boards to lurk over the Escapist's forums these days.

I don't know what my favourite thing is about the forums. I mean, it's certainly not this section of the site I linked here, no sir. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/index/326-User-Reviews]

But to be honest, I'm not really sure what I do enjoy here now. I think force of habit keeps pulling me back here. Anyway, I'd suggest to you to try the Forum Game section. You can mess around there, have fun and make some good friends if that's what you're after.

So...yeah, I'd suggest reading User Reviews and browsing the Forum Games.
Also, welcome.

This. This is by far the best section and community of the site.

If I hadn't already, I would click on almost every thread in there and leave a comment.

;)

But...but I've still got my ropes around you...:p

I wish I could still be the bright eyed fanatic fucker of the boards, proclaiming my undying love and overabundance of attention for the forums, but...something isn't really clicking for me anymore.
I'm still happy enough to come here, and browse a bit, but the days of me spending an ungodly amount of time sitting and perusing the boards have passed. Ah well.

My favorite thing is the same as always, though. All the people I've come to enjoy bothering on here :D

Same thing goes for me, I occasionaly post something, but overall, I read a few threads.

I'm basicly here because I enjoy some of the video series here, like Zero Punctuation, Tales from the Table and Unskippable.

As a person who has never regularly posted on forums, I find this site the most engaging, mainly because the people posting actually make articulate points.

I just come to make an odd comment here and there, it's worked so far. Bonus points if someone gets a laugh out of it.

I just lurk all the time, but i made most of my friends from the usergroups area. Especially the Minecraft/Escapecraft one.

Try to find one you like and check them out. I was friendless before I discovered that user group. You'd be surprised how much there is to do there.

User Groups. Find good niche groups and get yourself lost in all the (mostly) private discussions about a subject you want to talk about. Pop culture, games, gaming habits, ways of life, how something works, webcomics, TV shows, movies, tons of RPs.

[sub]Like my usergroup about Homestuck? Please?[/sub]

The ponies usergroup is incredibly active and open to new members, if you're into MLP.

Seconded on the roleplaying point, up until I found those I was only an occasional visitor to this site, now I log-in every day. Other than that, I like the variety of Off-topic and I often lurk around the Religion and Politics, though I don't post often there as I don't have to time any-more to get into in depth debates.

Most of the time when I find a thread the discussion has already taken off so I don't feel there's much point contributing. I also don't feel that I can formulate my opinion in to an adequate post (just like now strangely). When I try to make a post on news stories I often find that I'm actually not informed enough to take part. I'm also cautious about saying something that could be offensive/inflammatory to someone else.

I enjoy the reviews and looking at game discussion but I lurk around the off topic area the most just flicking from thread to thread.

I don't post a lot in general, only if I'm really passionate about something (that's rare). I'd rather keep opinions to myself while knowing what other people think, that's why I prefer lurking.

Now to be honest Zero Punctuation is the only real reason I'm on this site. The forums are ok I guess, it's just that I find the opinions very Western/North American centric. But that's to be expected.
I'm not saying that I don't like it, it's just that there are a lot more threads about atheism and piracy than I'm used to. (first world problems)

It was the community, then most of my good friends got banned, and now that the site layout is terrible I'm finding it a pain in the ass to post consistently.
So now I go to Reddit, which is much more fun for me.
