...because they can barely handle Jack Black in small doses, let alone throughout a full game?

This is hard for me because of Tim Schafer's involvement in the game, but I cannot handle listening to Black. For my money the guy is scarcely funny, overbearing, and a lousy musician.

I'll probably rent at some point because its a Schafer game, but I know I won't be able to get past Black's presence enough to put much time into it, let alone buy it.

Is there anyone besides me in the same boat?

No! You are not the only person to not like/want/have *fill in blank*

There is always someone out there who agrees with you!

Jack Black is fine. I liked Tenacious D quite a bit. Just be grateful that it isn't *shudder* Jamie Kennedy....the worst comedian of all time (who actually tries to be funny, no Neil Hamburger stuff now).

As a musician, I find JB to be very talented. It's just his style of performing that turns people off from him. Pick of Destiny was a great movie, as is their live shit(Tenacious D). Tim Schafer is gold, so i'll probably buy the game based solely off of his reputation.

If you want to dismiss this as a generic "fill in the blank" thread, knock yourself out. However the question still stands. I see all this praise for Jack Black and his zany antics, funny movies, and great music and yet I can't stand the guy, his movies (except High Fidelity, but he only had a bit part there) and I cringe when I see Tenacious D songs in Rock Band.

Brutal Legend looks like it could be a pretty interesting game, and a lot of people are giving it good advance press. If it were almost anyone else doing the voice acting I would probably have this one pre-ordered already.

I can barely stand Jack Black at the best of times. Combine Jack Black with incredibly stupid game premise and you've got something I'll be avoiding like the plague

I love Jack Black, and I like Tim Schafer's writing.

However, for Brutal Legend to even register with me, I need to know something about the actual gameplay. Not just what bands are in it. I don't even know anything about Metal.

This is my problem. While the game looks funny and interesting, if it doesn't have good game play to back that up it's going to go right past me.

I'd say consider the fact that Jack Black isn't playing himself, or some copy of himself, but a completely different character. I'm no fan of Dane Cook, but I thought he did an exceptional job in Mr. Brooks, partly because he was playing a character so different from who he normally is.

I'll probably pass on it because Im not a metal fan. The game looks good enough for a rent though

I would play this if I could, but as far as I know there's no plan for a PC version and I will be damned if I'm buying a whole console for a single game.

I should mention the metal aspect as well. I am a metal fan, but not a fan of the subgenres metal has been broken down into over the last decade or so. I prefer old school metal like Maiden and Priest, stuff with pounding rhythms yet with awesome guitar melodies. Black parodies metal both with his attitude and his horrible music. I don't see how he would ever have been able to record a single track if it weren't for his Hollywood status.

So I guess thats another aspect of his persona in this game that bothers me too.

Well the 24th I believe the demo will be out for gold members and for all on October 1st. So far it is a game that I can understand why someone wouldn't be interested in it. It is something I been looking forward to because Shafter's game have always been fun. It makes sense someone might not be interested in it. There are parts I am not really found of, but as a whole think it to be worth while. Enough that this is my one new game of the year.

To all you people not buying Brutal Legend, I will hunt you down and stab you in the jaw.
