Wow do you guys sound really hipsterish with your eighties movies and your Greek myth references. And I know hipster, I'm from Oregon. It seems you guys were into gladiator matches way before it was cool.
Better not refer to the greek ever again then. Or else someone might call you a hipster, and you wouldn't want that would you? That's why we also call people nerds. Because praising intellectuals, or slightly educated people is wrong.
Yep, because that's precisely what I meant by that, not that you all sound like a bunch of pseudo-intellectuals fresh off a visit to TvTropes who think that knowing most literature is derived from Greek myth makes them a genius. I'm certainly not implying you're acting like self-important teenagers either. Nope, what I'm saying is that attaining an education or looking up to intellectuals is wrong, which is why my efforts to attain a phd make me the devil and my admirers the scum of the earth.
Then why don't you just say that? Or just say nothing at all. What good does smug insulting do?
Makes me feel better. I'm a kinda smug guy when people are acting like jerks. I should probably stop that, but I really am tired of this whole idea that liking the "original" and "unpopular" Battle Royale makes them better than me. I would rather they just say which they think is better and why, judging each work on its own merits rather than by which came first. I probably should calm down about it though.
If you're tired that people down rate something, because something similar's already on the market, then you will be so tired that you'll go all sleeping beauty on us, because stuff like that will never go away.

PLEASE, UNDERSTAND THIS! I swear, it should be against the forum rules to make a thread that begins with "Am I the only one who..."
My gods a thousand times this!!
I wanted to write this, but since you already have I can´t be bothered...
...shouldn´t think I´m the only one either ;-)

One can be tired of genocide even though there's no chance that's going away. Same with child and spousal abuse.

I don't hear or see anything about The Hunger Games that much so no. I am sick of hearing about The Mas Effect 3 ending but I was buzzed about Skyrim and posted in as many Skyrim threads as I could. It's a certain give and take that you have to deal with on the internet and in person, occasionally you'll find something that you enjoy talking about that others will hate, then you'll be on the other side and vilified for it.

It's easier just to let these things be than complain about them day and night.

I kinda love you for this. I agree. The next person to freak out about Mass Effect 3 on me is going to get punched in the face.

Anyway, I don't mind it. I just recently got into the book series myself, so it's all new to me, and it's something I'm now interested in, so it really doesn't bother me. Bring on the Hunger Games. :)

Alright, point taken; although in my case there's a significantly better Best Case Scenario. In my case the Best Case Scenario is that I manage to convince a large number of people to stop making snarly comments and harassing people on the internet about insignificant things that don't mean shit. Although there are better odds of me sprouting wings and flying off to NeverLand than of that happening.
In your case, even if you achieved the best case scenario you'd still have a seemingly infinite number of people still using that phrase which you hate so much (although why it bugs you is beyond me); which is what I meant by "infinity minus (or "subtract" if you want to be anal about it) 1." What are you left with when you take away 1 from infinity? You're still left with frikin' infinity.
Honestly, the amount of people actually harassing others on the internet for nothing is far, far, far larger than the amount of people using that phrase. You've got both a harder and bigger job than me, buddy >_<
Anyways, I don't consider this to be anywhere near "harassment". It's unnecessary venting of annoyance, yes, but it's completely harmless for all parties. If you want that, check anything on the internet related to (yes, more fitting CM =p) politics, gender [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/comics/critical-miss/9116-Sexism-and-or-Racism], sexuality, religion or such. You might want to start there. Or, on a second thought, you probably don't want to go anywhere near those people.
Nah. Upon reflection I think I'm perfectly fine letting other people act like assholes on the Internet and don't need to lower myself to their level. I'd suggest you do the same, but that's up to you.

Nope. You're not the only one.
Friend read the books well before they even announced the movie.

It basically sounded like Battle Royale, but with less sadism.

What the hell did I create? I thought I was gonna get just some yes and no answers, I didn't know that people were gonna lose their minds. WTF? Especially the whole "you're never the only one" tirade. I didn't know that rule of the internet (but honestly the only one I know on the top of my head is Rule 34.)

eerrmmm....I'll be honest Im not entirly sure what your saying

I was actually agreeing with you (I might have not been clear on that)

because its like the HATE of a certain thing is bigger than the thing itself...(at least at some point) you would go to any music video on youtube and half the comments would be about justin beiber...

or to put it another way...its like the rotting corpes of an evil man (not a pleasant thing) instead o fjust leaving it buried people have to keep digging it up, drag it to your front door and shove it in your face "look at it! look at how AWFUL its it!!..LOOOK AT IIIIIITT!!!!"

that said we all enjoy critcising bad things...but after a certain point it gets rediculous...like peopel act as though its some great conspiricy and peopel are blind to the fact x i awful...no, they just dont give a crap about x... becaue x is awful
I certainly didn't read your comments and conclude you were agreeing, but I was also just barely woken up for the day, so I might have misread it. If that's the case, steady on, mate!

no, but only becuase everybody's going on about the hunger games like they all read when it came out and have been with it since, where in reality they just keep going on about it because of the movie. I read that series while it was still in a shoolastic and nobody hardly knew it existed. It disgusts me how it takes a movie to make something from underground to mainstream.

Not really, I'd never heard of it until the film came out and I just thought it was an American take on a Japanese Film, as there are a great amount of them.

I wasn't even aware of the series existence untill just a few days ago.

I might go see the movie actually, haven't been to the Cinema in quite some time.

Also for those who are saying it's a rip off of Battle Royale, which is true but there is a key rule in the world of film and writting. There is no such thing as an orginal story.

It's how that story is portrayed that really matters.

There really isn't that much hype for it. It's a popular series, but it's nothing like Twilight as far as retardation goes and doesn't have the cosplay that Harry Potter allows. You'll get fans of the series gushing, sure, and I loved the shit out of the movie (and am gonna at least read the first book because of it), but it isn't that bad compared to many series.

Twilight, Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, Justin Bieber, all bigger scourges and far more invasive/annoying.

I think your angst is a little misplaced. It's not like new fans had a choice in the matter, I would bet that the vast majority of new fans of the series had never heard of the books before the movie (or the rise in popularity in relation to the movie).

Actually, I'd imagine that it's somewhat like Harry Potter, which drew in new ADULT fans rather than the target audience. My parents have never read the books but are fans of the series because of the movies, and I imagine the Hunger Games series will have similar tendencies.

Besides, I'm sure you can understand why it's a lot easier for a series to become popular when you can sum up 40+ hours of reading into a 2-hour movie. Blame the industry, not the fans.

yes, but it's the fans who keep the industry running

I like the books, just finished reading the second one last weekend. I'll probably watch the movie, if they're making all three. Also, the second book was much better than the first one. I hope it's the same with the third one.

I started reading it because the story of the trilogy sounds interesting. I'm not going to judge it on the first book and movie, like most of you.
