I'm in the US Navy. Most people don't know this but sailors have the ability to communicate completely through profanity. So no, "bad" words don't bother me.

Entering the workforce as a builders labourer and then going on to being a carpentry apprentice you quickly become desensitized to swearing on a building site.

I know people who happily getting each other with "Hey C**** hows it F****ing going?"

Its really bizarre how can call each other the c bomb as a term of endearment but if someone calls someone else a dog(not a *****, just a dog) Its fighting words....

I don't give a damn about people swearing, it's the intention and emotion behind the words which are or aren't offensive, not particular words, as is proven by the varying strength of particular 'swear-words' across English-speaking territories.

its true! not once has bad langueage got to me. seriously though, i haven't because i don't think profanities should be offensive. also:

I understand slander and defamation but other than insults like that taking legal or physical action due to being offended is just moronic, this kind of goes both way as if you sink into depression or even heaven forbid kill yourself over an insult you are just sort of pathetic.
bit offensive and unnecessary really. while i agree that it is a bit OTT, some people do commit suicide from bullying and it isn't really a laughing matter. being offended and being hurt by something are two different things

edit: also, you are never the only one
See that is kind of what I do not get if you simply do not give a fuck words can never "hurt" you. I can not even fathom the consent of being "hurt" of what someone said about me. it utterly confounds me, people talked shit about me all the time and I never cared unless they actually distracted me from doing something productive and in that case it is still not their words that bother me it is they fact they are stopping me from being productive, add to that if we are say playing a videogame and and I say a swear that is used in the game and someone responds "watch the language or i will kick you" i am actually sort of put off by this. It is not so much as i am offend as much as that i now fin the person to be a self righteous prude and thus they annoy me so I just leave partly due to that and partly because i know I am going to swear again and that will just piss them off which is not my goal.

on that part, i do agree with you. people believing that they have a right not to be offended is a crock of shit, and by all means they can be offended, but nothing should come of it.

but words hurting people isn't necessarily about the words hurting, it is the way the words are said which is usually most hurtful. unfortunately very few people are desensitized to words to the extreme that they don't get offended by them at all
