Honestly, I find these guys to be confusing. When I hate something I just ignore it. I really dislike rap, so I don't listen to rap. I hate country music, so I avoid country music. I cannot for even a single second believe that they have a harder time avoiding Bieber than I have avoiding two whole genres of music. It's pathetic really. They truly are mere novices in the art of apathy.
You know how hard it is to ignore something mainstream? Turn on the radio , and everything you will hear is mainstream . Get on a bus , you will hear girls singing bieber songs . Go to the city , you will see beider hair does , and beiger t-shirts , and posters and ... Well you get the idea .

OT: i read twilight out of curiosity , it's terrible . I've heard beiber songs , they are terrible. Katy perry is hot , but i wouldn't spend more that 5 minutes talking to her . Teenage girls are very vocal ( and annoying ) about what they like and what they feel and that's annoying . There is nothing more naive ( than a teenage girl , they go from super intelligent as children , become really stupid as teenagers , then go back to being really intelligent in adulthood . At least men are consistantly dumb :) . I'm more annoyed at teenage girls than anything else .

Given the dominant demographic in this site, I reckon a fair bit of that bile stems from the insecurity of the young men complaining. The teenage girls they chase are interested in Beiber and Joe Jonas, so in order for them to feel better about themselves they while away the evening hours bitching with equally shunned teenage boys: "Girls, why u liek Beiber and not me".
Im sure there was the odd day when I would fire up the 56k dial up modem and get onto a bulletin board to ask " why do the girl's like Backstreet Boys not me?"

I'll tell you what .... when you have 3 teenage daughters, you come back and tell me all that stuff isn't too bad.

If you can manage it with a straight face and a lack of "I want to hurt people" glinting in your eyes, we can talk.
And I thought my life was going to improve once we got beyond endless repeats of Dora the Explorer...

A problem? With Katy Perry? I think not, sir.

As for the rest of it, it is fucking annoying, and the internet was built for complaining. And porn. Mostly porn.

I actually kind of like some of Miley Cyrus songs. (26 year old male, turns in man car...) oh look I'm all out of man cards.

I was at the perfect age for Britney Spears. Honestly, all I remember is the guys wanted her to be their GF and all the girls wanted to be her. I think its a basic need to be wanted and to want things.

Then again I saw Britney as someone who was dirty and couldn't sing without the help of a computer.

Liked N'Sync though... Hey, I already said I'm all out of man cards!

Well to be honest, we all were susceptible to fads at one point.... Anyone remember The pet rock? or Pokemon... There are plenty of others......... everyone goes through that phase. For me it was Pokemon, followed by N'Sync followed by Yu Gi Oh... After that I FINALLY wised up. Now I spend my spare time focused on school or this site, and I spend my money on computer related things...

Yes...you're the only one. I'm not sick at all of half of the posts on 'funny' content sites being something along the lines of "Justin Bieber threw up on stage? Musta sucked too many dicks TROLOLOLOLOL" etc etc

And anyway, without the likes of Justin Bieber, we wouldn't have Heavy Bieber, and that's just wrong.

Oh my god, that was beautiful, thank you sir for posting this and making my day a little better.
Hurray for you, and I shall now eloquently praise you to the full extend my vocabulary allows:

it's the classic "stop liking what I don't like" syndrome all over again, as long as these things excist there will always be people that want to tear it a new one, be the reason legit or otherwise.

mostly legit IMHO though, a lot of these things don't get popular for actual quality or artistic depth, just a checklist of traits and mass-marketing does the job alright, and teenagers have yet to recognise this pattern.

poor sods.

People have been making fun of that kind of stuff long before the internet ever existed but thanks to the internet, it's much more visible and spreads quicker.

Also, there's this wise saying:
You measure your success by the amount of haters you've got.

Because the internet is built by insecure man-children who hate yucky girly things.

Actually the things you note are things that everyone outside of the target demographic tends to to hate or be neutral to. I think its just a matter of lots of people airing negative opinions and not lots of positive opinions being aired due to there only existing in areas that specifically discuss those things. For example, generally people riff on Twilight, but lots of people like Twilight, but those opinions tend to get expressed in things like Twilight forums not just on the general internet.

Also, this isn't new. The term 'valley girl' is ancient by pop culture standards and is older then some people on this forum.

Eh, I am perfectly capable of ignoring both teen girl fads and the hate that is directed at them.

Although I am kind of jealous that I didn't think of any of those things first and make stupendous amounts of money.

"Oh but these books and films are corrupting the girls into thinking misogyny is okay"

Sure it is? because last i checked you got on a soap box when being told violent video games make you become a more violent person?

Double standards much yo.

I'm on board with you. I've never understood all the hating on Justin Bieber/Miley Cyrus/etc. etc. Calling them "the worst thing to happen to music, humanity is doomed". Did everyone forget about people like Jesse McCartney? Or Britney Spears? Give it a few years and a new person will emerge, and all the attention will move from Bieber to them.

As for why they do it? Probably because pre-teens, boys and girls, are easy targets to make fun of. They're old enough that you're not really insulting a child, but young enough that attacking them is simple

[sub]Also, in before "No, you're NEVER the only one posts[/sub]
This man here. Give him a medal.

Its basically the same as insulting Thomas the tank engine:

"GOD THAT SHOW IS INSIPID! No deep themes are covered! The characters are one dimensional and use very limited vocabulary to explain very basic feelings as if they are important and new! I mean cmon who the fuck doesnt understand being jealous is wrong? What a stupid shallow show. I hate it. Its a sign that all TV is dying if every day thousands of people watch these dire show. Theres no deep humor. No running jokes. No actual real life relevance to it! Its just shallow laughter at a talking train"

Notice how much of a fuckwit i sound? Its a kids tv show. Aimed at people who havnt experienced or understood jealousy yet. Things we find so common and easy to be patronizing children watch and say "OH I never thought about it before!" because they have literally lacked the mental capacity and time to think about them. You have experience. They are finding such simple shallow feelings for the first time and going batshit mental becuase, for them, these things are fucking awesome and brand new. Just because we are so used to thinking and knowing about things doesnt mean when a child experiences them they cant relate or try and understand them without us going "ITS SO FUCKING EASY DONT WATCH SOME SHITTY TV SHOW COME LISTEN TO THE WORKS OF HP LOVECRAFT!".

Its the same with teenagers. Yes we all know how stupid and aimless first love and crushes are, with their little hormones racing and making them feel shallow pointless things until they master it and start controlling their emotions to reach something more meaningful. But that isnt their fault. And we shouldn't mock them for it. Its just biology. And we did it too. This shitty music and cinema (twilight i dislike because it targets girls wrestling with new found feelings and sets a bad precedent for what a healthy feeling should look like) helps them relate about their new and confusing feelings. Justin Beiber singing about his first love makes confused, angsty and hormonal teenage girls feel more understood and normal. Sure at its core to us jaded adults is dumb as fuck because we know from hindsight those feelings are basically meaningless. They dont. How could they? Just because we tell them so?

Yes TV, cinema and books aimed at the 15 downward range is shallow and dumb. Its meant to be that way. People in this age range dont have the experience to properly understand deeper themes and emotions. Its not fair to lambaste poor children just because they lack the life experience to tell real feelings from cliched teen pop music. They arnt old enough to see its a tired cliche. And the second they hit 18 they're going to hate the new pop sensation, having received their experience the first thing they will do with it is lord it over those who don't have it yet, mocking them for their lack of understanding just like people on this forum do now. The cycle will continue.

It depends, I have no problem with say, Justin Beiber, just all his crazy fangirls. I still don't care for Twilight, and wish TV stations would quit pandering to tweens... So yeah, I know it's old to rag on them...

Well okay yeah some of the hate for some teeny pop garbage can go overboard, but i must disagree with you on one thing. With Twilight, it is kind of warranted. That said, these stupid fads die eventually and we're always better off sticking with level-headed criticism and pushing the wayward cum sprout females towards better literature and music with depth instead of acting like wayward cum sprout males on Xbox Live.

One Direction, Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus.
They, and most other victims of this trend tend to sell sex to kids.

Which is a pretty good reason for hating them I think.

Heres the thing, when the media shoves something on me constantly while I'm trying to do other things and effectively raping my eyes/ears, I will develop an opinion and it will not be favorable. I don't know about the rest but beiber was forced on me over and over again on the radio, TV commercials and god knows what else that I've repressed.

Maybe I wouldn't be so bitter about it if he was even mildly likable or had songs that had lyrics that weren't lame duck or at the very least sang well so i could ignore the lyrics. But no, all that and he talks like he doesn't have a clue which makes him unlikable so I will continue to exclaim that he is terrible until he dies or gets kicked off center stage and I can go a week without being reminded of him.

As fads for teens they're fine so long as they doesn't affect me. What gets me is when adults claim Twilight is great, or Harry Potter is the finest fantasy literature since Tolkein, or 50 Shades of Grey, or My Little Pony, etc. These things were niche markets, many of them not even intended for the audience that now so praises them, and it's doubly annoying because the material isn't all it's drummed up to be, and the fans seem to derive pleasure from avoiding the mainstream so deftly that they become mainstream. You like it, great. Now shut the hell up about it.

So in conclusion, no one has ever come up to me and harped about how great Justin Beiber is. So I could care less about him.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I know my disdain for Bieber comes from the fact that I suddenly see his stupid face all over. I just find something very punchable about it. I think most of the dislike in general is that it seems like fads aimed at girls tend to get huge marketing pushes so there isn't much you can do to avoid them, kind of like blizzard marketing pushes, damn annoying blizzard.
