I've been thinking about this for a while. I honestly can't remember the last time something that was for teenage girls was considered good. Except for the Hunger Games, that is.

These fads have the unique element of being absolutely abhorrent for about the entire rest population. Unlike, say, pokemon, which was a fad for kids but was also liked by a lot of other people and is still enjoyed by many people in their 20s or older, there is not much leeway in the age groups of Beiber's audience.

Jeah, never got this hate on those folks.
Though i've to say i dislike Bieber, but just because i've seen some interviews and off-camera videos where he behaves like the biggest diva on earth.

And he's got to know that stuff like: "I'll be bigger than Michael Jackson" will be seen as a provocation.
If not, he has a bad management :p

I understand the OP and other people's frustration at people who seem to go out of their way to hate on a given artist or trend. However, I'm going to play Devil's Advocate. I think that your reaction to a particular pop culture phenomenon may be more derisive if you are unable to directly control your exposure to it.

Currently, I am among those who doesn't really care about what the latest pop star does. However, the reason I don't care is, as an adult with an income, if I don't want to listen to things like Justin Bieber, I don't have to. My car is equipped with a CD/MP3, so I get to choose the songs I like. Any television I watch is done through internet services, which cuts commercial advertising to a minimum. I don't have to go to school or the functions associated with it.

In my youth, however, it was a different story. Then, I didn't have the means to escape pop culture. I went to school and had to hear girls obsessing over some stupid, no-talent boy band while waiting in lunch lines. I had to borrow vehicles, which typically didn't have a CD player or, if they did, I didn't plan on bringing any of my music, so I was stuck with the radio. If my housemates had a party, it was "democracy rule" on the stereo, so when some drunk, hot girl would want to hear some shitty song, I would have to put up with it. I also worked retail. You know that song from the hot new album by so-and-so? Well, if you haven't, just stand in a big box retail store for an 8-hour shift and you're likely to hear it 6 times.

As you can tell from my tone, when I didn't have direct control over my exposure to "shit" (as I deemed it), I was much more apt to react with extreme negativity when anybody brought these things up. I just want to be away from all that mess with some punk rock in my headphones. It's when pop culture gets up in your face and "flight" is not an option, then it's down to "fight".

I always assumed the Bieber hate was tied into a jealousy of his fame and fortune, especially considering his age. It's the same with all boy bands, really: people just can't stand someone their age (I say their age because it's always 16 year olds who do this) who's already made more money then they will in a lifetime. It's like the richest kid in school: no matter how nice or cool he is, there will always be someone who hates him because they assume money corrupts the soul.

On my end, I dislike Bieber for his, quite frankly, boneheaded views on abortion and healthcare.

Ozzy Osbourne once said: Who the fuck is Justin Bieber?

Wise words.
...Doesn't a stage hand (played by Justin Bieber) respond to that by saying "I don't know, but it looks like a girl."

See, that's why I find it hard to really dislike Justin Bieber. He's shown a willingness to make jokes at his own expense that makes it hard to actually hate him.

Oh, and also "Justin Bieber is so gay! I better spend lots of time comparing his appearance to that of a female, the gender I am sexually attracted to, in order to prove how gay he is!"

No, they don?t. Except for Miley Cyrus, who was spawned on the Disney Channel. But One Direction and Jonas Brothers? They?re just your run-of-the-mill boy bands.
It's subtle, perhaps "selling sex to kids" is a bit of a strong way to put it for those two particular examples. But the same rules essentially apply. The bands are sold on the basis of their physical attractiveness and not on any level of talent, skill or artistic integrity.

When you take into account the fact Jonas Brothers spray young screaming female fans with white foam, or members of one direction tweet half naked pictures of themselves, and then take into account the kind of audience the groups recieve, it becomes a bit more obvious.

Rihanna and Lady Gaga are aimed at teenage girls, who are going to use their newly developed body without understanding it, no matter what.
Oh well that makes it okay to sell sex to under 18's then.

That was sarcasm by the way.
I don't think it's okay to sell sex to under 18's.
Which Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and all previously mentioned examples do.

It's the same kind of reasoning that makes people believe the world will end in their lifetime. Something is relevant now, so it has to be the worst thing ever, of all time. Everybody wants to be a victim. No generation has suffered like mine has!

....You grumpy old farts.

I just feel that a lot of this whining comes insecurity or male Bias or something around those lines.
While technically this derives directly from the perception (true or not) that teenage girls are easily manipulated (possibly the MOST easily) demographic....

I can't believe you would accuse the general male populace of insecurity or bias!

However, I do find it slightly disturbing that so many tween girls are hooked on the idea of a jealous, controlling douchebag trying to run their lives (Twilight).

Did everyone forget about people like Jesse McCartney? Or Britney Spears? Give it a few years and a new person will emerge, and all the attention will move from Bieber to them.
Was Jesse ever a really big deal? I don't follow pop culture intentionally, but I never thought he made it as big as other acts in the "teeny bopper" sensation. However, Brittney Spears managed to keep herself pretty relevant, even if not as a musician.

Anyway, the beauty of these things is that they're optional.

I dunno if Jesse was ever huge, I just remember it was like him, Aaron Carter, then the Jonas Brothers or something like that. And I remember reading all the exact same Bieber comments, except applied to them

Because the people who rip on these things are young men on the internet. And young men on the internet are misogynists.
Hooray for generalization!
Anyway, stupidity aside, I agree with you. I though twilight was/is an alright film series and I can understand why people would like Bieber. I mean, he's barely at the end of puberty and already he's made enough to retire on. He's got neary 3 billion views on youtube. The guy is to be respected, if anything.
