So at risk of being flamed I've decided to post this little thing that I've noticed as of lately, now before you go looking at my "Member Since" date, please take into consideration that's only the amount of time that I've had an account and OFFICIALLY been around, I have been around quite a deal longer than that.

Back to the subject. It seems that as of lately I've noticed a decline in creative, intelligent posts. Maybe I'm being overcritical but it seems like everyday I'm greeted with a barrage of "Favorite (insert generic topic here)" threads along with, as of lately what appears to be an increase in trolling threads. Now that's not to say that there aren't intelligent posts, there are, it simply seems that they are, how do I say this? On the fast-track to becoming an endangered species. While browsing through some threads earlier, I found the post that a particular user was banned for, see the troubling part is, the post was intelligent, it had basis, and could have easily been a great discussion, but instead was locked and merited a ban apparently, I'm not sure exactly why, maybe I'm missing something. For those of you who have taken the time to think about what you post, thank you, it's a privilege to share a community with you.

Bout it,
-Unstoppable Wall

I know what you mean, I have the same experience. But, my first thread was just as bad as any of the ones you mentioned, if not worst.

Now though, I like to think that now I know more or less which threads have been done before, I can use the search button, in other words I can contribute more. What I'm trying to say is, give it time, they will learn.

Are you talking about Necroswanson or however you spell his name. I thought that was a little wrong but I see where the site was coming from

Do you have a link to the post in question? Our Mods are usually on the ball when it comes to their jobs, so I imagine there was a legitimate reason. As for the poor post quality, the stickies at the top of each forum say it better than I could ever do, people don't report enough. The mods can't check every post. If you see an asshole or a jerkish post, hammer that report button as is your duty and the Mods will have them on a list of people to investigate.

Be it the OP of a thread, a derailing post dumped in by ego, negative or useless comments or an innapropriate joke, if you want to see the dumb go away then post intelligently when things are smart and report when they aren't.

And please, people, don't feed the trolls.

To answer xmetatr0nx, I understand what you're saying, it's not so much taking it seriously as breaking away from the monotony of things is all.

As for you NoMoreSanity, are you asking which post I was referring to that got a banhammer brought down?

I blame the Yahtzee fans. j/k

It's probably just a phase. Things'll go back to normal soon enough. And if not... *shakes fist*

...that's an empty threat. I can't do anything.

As a chronic lurker I completely agree that there has been an increase in stupid posts, trolling etc. The double-edged sword of the escapist's success and popularity is that more and more people join in; and more and more people usually means a bunch of jerks when the internet is concerned. The escapist has great forums (amongst a great website) and I'd hate for them to descend to the depths of the typical game-based forum.

Oh please. Use them for what they're there for - proving grounds.
Lob the newbies into the pit armed with naught but their wits and their keyboards, and the best of them shall emerge battle-hardened for the greater good.

Edit: I find myself agreeing with fella-me-lad's PoV there. I like me a big ol' dose of Rage now and again.

Didnt we have someone quit the escapist over this earlier? What exactly is creativity? Also there are a lot of other factors that go into this. Age, interest, reasons of the posters. Not everyone can be a bastion of intellect or creativity every time they come on here. I like most other people (im assuming) come here to relax, have some fun, and generally to be distracted. Sure there are some silly threads and what not, but whats the point of taking it so seriously?
I agree with this. I consider a creative and intelligent post one that inspires a few giggles but also has very few spelling errors.

If you want nothing but serious talk about serious topics then I believe you've come to the wrong site, my friend. Majority of us are here because of Zero Punctuation and we all know how serious Yahtzee is.

As previously said, it depends on your definitions of "creative" and "intelligent".

Kuliani gave a reason right there, Necro was screaming at everyone and everything and such broad-sweep flames against a community aren't tolerated. He had a history of other infractions and I imagine this was the straw that broke the camels back. Intelligent or not, spewing bile like a lawn-sprinkler is a punishable offence here.

Here's the deal.

If you don't like what's here, write something else. Put up threads which are insightful, intelligent, discussive and all the rest. Simply complaining about something will not change the posting habits of those who don't pay attention anyway. We all think we're above-average thinkers, putting above-average topics on the board. No matter how deluded that is.

Hmm this is actually a very good point, see now i never said anything about serious, I myself was brought here by Yahtzee. And truth be told creative to me is something that is out of the norm catches my attention and has a little bit if not a lot of meaning to it. that being said maybe I'm just being overcritical of things

Ultrajoe and Labyrinth are both very correct.
There have been quite a few threads about 'Forum degradation' and such.
The only thing we can really do is lead by example.

He's been banned for just over six hours....
But it'll be kinda sad without him, though.
