Is it just me, or is swearing awesome? And I don't get those people who snootily say "How vulgar!" Words are just sounds and shapes that we use to communicate, how the fuck can they offend you?

No, swearing is not awesome, it make you sound like an idiot most of the time. If you can't communicate without using vulgarities, nobody will take you seriously. If you're having beers with your friends, well, in that situation anything goes, but I'd like the rest of the world to know me as a well mannered, mature 25 year old.

Some are now used in spite of others so people have connected words like ***** as an insult.
But i use swearing to show anger mainly .

I usually only swear when I'm really annoyed. I try not to swear if I can avoid it.

I communicate with vulgarities and get taken fucking seriously. I don't find them offensive, just that they put an extreme amount of emphasis on.

That's well and good for you mate, but I have 2 kids under the age of 2, so I really don't want to walk around spouting off at the mouth. There are just as many if not more scenarios where it is completely inappropriate. What are you gonna do, walk into a job interview and say "Hey, how ya fuckin' doin boss?" My point is, one of the things that comes with being an adult is showing restraint. Swearing a lot is just one of those things most of us let go of in order to become better pillars of our communities.

I try my best to not swear. But if you go to my school, where you are surrounded by people who constantly swear you just get used to swearing in normal conversations.

Usually I only swear when I am annoyed, and even then I try to say "Frack" instead of fuck.

Swearing is like chili. You can use it to spice up the conversation, but swearing too much is just stupid. People will not take you seriously if you use swear words as punctuation marks.

No, I'm going to get to know the boss, then spout vulgarities. Oh, and in the case of kids they should be at least 13 before you start swearing, so you're right there.

And as for the pillar of community... bahahahahahhaha.

What he said.
You're the second person today whose assumed I'm a guy... Weird.
A more feminine avatar could help just a little.

And slightly more on-topic, I don't mind a little(read: tiny bit) of swearing, but I extremely dislike those who use swear words in every other sentence.

So male forumites can have any avatar they want, but females have to have feminine avatars?

First of all, swearing is great, for example:

'Come the fuck in or fuck the fuck off.'

'This is a bucket of shit. If someone throws shit at us, we throw shit back at them. We start a shit fight. We throw so much shit back at them so they can't pick up shit, they can't throw shit, they can't DO shit.'

Two very sweary quotes from a very sweary but somehow highbrow and desperately funny program called the thick of it.

However, swearing has its place; perhaps not at work or in front of kids. This is because its impact would be lost through over-use, only because we considered it offensive and vulgar can its use be considered subversive or entertaining. If we all swore all the time, it wouldn't be swearing and we would have to find new words to consider offensive. This happens all the time, consider 'Gay' and it journey from happy to homosexual to something thats just a bit rubbish but not enough to be bothered about.

I'm always afraid to make this mistake x)
Maybe a function that shows gender could be a profile option?

On topic: I swear when angry or to emphesize something. Otherwise I try to moderate my swearing.
