Am I the only one who doesn't like Asian games?

Most of my friends love games like Mario and Final Fantasy. They're always anticipating new console releases from Nintendo. Personally, I'm not too fund of that, and it seems like I'm the only one. I've played a lot Asian-styled games, trying to figure out what everyone saw in them, but I have yet to find one I like. I guess it's just not my taste, everything just seems...too "cute". Nearly all of favorite games are rated M- bloody, massacres. Maybe I just enjoy the violence in games?

Anyways, I wanna know: Did you ever meet a person like me?

OT: I wouldn't worry about it too much. So you like bloody, violent, games. That's just your personal taste. Everybody has their own. On the flip side, a given person might not care for violent games in favor of what you call "asian" games. Personal preference, my good man.

Oh, we have many people who agree with you on here. Dozens upon dozens. I am not one of them, but I know that there are quite a few on here.

Also, have you tried the Devil May Cry series, the Resident Evil series, the Metal Gear Solid series, Deadly Premonition, killer7, or the Silent Hill series? All are Japanese games, none are what you would describe as "cute", and all are quite violent. You might enjoy those...

You must be kind of new to The Escapist. Though Japanese video games are highly praised and loved by many, there are also many out there, many of which are on this site (Yahtzee is one) who hate Japanese RPGs. The reasoning for this usually comes down to either preference (i.e. not liking turn-based systems), dislike of Japanese culture ("The mannerisms are so weird!"), or bad aesthetic understanding (such as Yahtzee's "It's only good game storytelling if there are no cutscenes and you actually do everything" philosophy). And there are lots of threads on this site about it.

I have many, many of my own reasons I love Japanese games, but you certainly aren't the only one who disagrees.

Any game that comes out of Japan that takes itself seriously like Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy or any of those stupid anime based games is garbage. That being said I've never played a Nintendo game that's part of their core franchises that I haven't enjoyed greatly. In summary; silly, goofy, light-hearted Japanese game = good. On topic: There's certainly a range of styles out there, any of which may simply be uninteresting to you. For instance, I have trouble enjoying gritty modern stuff - I just don't like the theme. And, like you, I find Japanese games to have a style to them that I can't easily enjoy.

It's just a thing about you. Learn to embrace it! But also, don't let it rule all your choices - else you might miss genuinely amazing games all on account of their audiovisual design and presentation.

I can agree with you on final fantacy being too serious sometimes, but Devil may cry? Seriously? The last 2 games play out like a self aware B movie, dante is so over the top it comes off as rediculous.

I have met people like you. Several. Not the kinds of people I share my gaming experiences with. Though truth be told I also dislike "Asian" (wtf) games. They're just not for me. They spend too much time repeating themselves.

Violence has it's place, sure. But I'd be more moved by a heartfelt speech about why you can't leave anyone behind than by stomping a guy's face in any day.

No, you're not alone. It is wrong to dismiss all Asian games outright simply because you haven't seen any that you like. As I often say, don't dismiss any category outright, because you may find something you'll love.
But yeah, I did know a guy once who would immediately dismiss as crap ANYTHING (and I mean any given thing, regardless of what it was) from Japan, often without even seeing it.

Try Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Vanquish or Devil May Cry? I could be pretty wrong but those games are the exact opposite of cute and they are as you call them "asian." Oh and let's not for Ninja Gaiden. I don't actually know if that is a Japanese made game but I am just going to assume it is.

Cause it says Ninja.
