There's no interconnecting plot.

You can play 10,7, 12, 13, Crystal Chronicles, whatever and it doesn't matter.

"Final Fantasy" is just Square lingo for "Game Made by Square Enix that's not Kingdom Hearts".

depends on what you consider "asian"

because of a few of my friends, everytime i hear "asian" i immediately think of farming MMO's and starcraft.

However I absolutely adore Asian-based games from companies such as Platinum, or Team Ninja.
their plots have absolutely nothing to do with each other..the only thing any of the games have in similar is the creators and the first part of the name. that is it. otherwise they are always entirely different battle systems/characters/story

not that i'm insisting you play the games, they aren't for everyone, just saying they aren't all the same...or at least connected.

You would be surprised, 7 and 8 aged fairly well, you just have to overlook the graphics being a little on the old side but not ridiculously so.

OT. I love JRPGs and I actually don't know anyone who dislikes literally all "Asian" games, As a few have said before, don't dismiss anything because of origin/genre because you could miss something you'd love.

Yup, all games from Japan (have to specify since China, Korea, Vietnam, India, and Indonesia ect... aren't really that known for designing games) are cute and not violent at all.

And you're never the only one. learn that fast and also play games because they're fun, not because they are violent, if you do we will all get along better on this site.

The thread title is racist.
OP is stereotyping.
Nothing new to see here, just another day at the escapist.

Yep.

None of the billions of other people agree with you.

[/blatantly sarcastic]

I'm sure there are plenty of people who write off games simply on where they are developed.

i bet there is a boat load of games you have played that you enjoyed and were asian. List your top 10-15 games and i'll show you which one is asian. Go ahead. I dare you. And don't take the time to wikipedia the list to see if it's asian or not. top games without thinking about it.

With the exception of one Swedish company, Frictional Games, Asian countries (specifically Japan) are the only ones who can make good survival horror games.

I love survival horror games. Ergo, I'm not with you on this one.

Not sure if troll or just the most ignorant bastard to walk the face of the Earth.

First of all your talking about games from Japan. It's a part of Asia but you should really be more specific since Japan and Asia kind of have different contexts. Secondly if you think Square and Nintendo are the only game companies in Japan then you need to do more research. Thirdly, nah there are plenty of guys like you. I think anyone who plays nothing but Madden or CoD probably qualifies as not liking "Asian" games.

Haven't you ever played Silent Hill or Resident Evil?
It's not racist if it's been his experience. Or, well... at all, really. How can you be racist to a game?

Because if you mention the slightest dislike or even different opinion to something as a group to a different group most on this site will instantly jump to calling you something ending with an ist?

I was going to say something about the whole plot thing but you've caught to much flak for that already. Instead I will agree and say Team Ninja can be awesome at times.

Yeah, when you're only reason for disliking a bunch of games is that they're all Asian, something's up.

However I already know what the problem is here. OP doesn't like some games and the only connection that he can find with all of them (due to intellectual laziness) is that they're Asian.

Not sure how not enjoying a game from Asia/Asian developers mean you are racist, their developers tend to have different philosophies, and I like them as much as Gabe Newell's or Cliffy B. (;p)

Not a big fan of Mario, but I will take characters like Dante (DMC) over Kratos any day. Also gameplay-wise, there's a lot more replay value thanks to New Game+ and the like in quite a few Asian games, overall I find the themes and objectives of these games to be more to my liking than Western games, for the simple reason that both lasting appeal and story matters to the same extent than say, a Western game which is 5 hours in length because the developers are only interested in telling one story then have you move on to either a lackluster multiplayer or addictive one.

Bayonetta for example has a decent story if you happen to pay enough attention to follow what the heck is happening but at the same time, beating the game might only be a 50% completion rate since there's some many things to discover like new costumes, expensive game changing items as well as new characters to mess around with. Compared to say Deus Ex: HR, that's a lot.

It's the generalization that's racist. As if all "Asian games" have some fundamental quality among them that OP doesn't like.

Were he to say he dislikes nintendo games, or he dislikes platformers, or he dislikes JRPG's, that would be entirely unobjectionable. Saying he doesn't like Asian games is in poor taste, as it implies their "Asianness" (if that's even a thing) is the reason he's not into them.

EDIT: For those of you who dig metaphors, here's a nice parallel.

It's okay to say you don't like Will Smith, or you don't like Eddie Murphy, and you're not too fond of Wesley Snipes either.

You could say Eddie Murphy's a bit crass, Wesley Snipes was not a good Blade, and Will Smith isn't fresh enough.

But if you say you don't like black actors, it's a bit hard to look at you with a straight face.

I haven't enjoyed a japanese game in quite a while. I don't really like the direction that the Final Fantasy games has gone with putting cinematics and effects over an actual narrative or interesting characters or gameplay.

I just haven't been enjoying the art style especially and it really gets in the way of enjoying the rest of the game
