I think it's pretty unfair the reputation Molyneux has. I mean sure he talks his games up, but his enthusiasm is unmatched, and to be honest i don't think he has made a terrible game...Yet.

No, you're not the only one. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/539.260077-Poll-5-Lionhead-Studios-vs-12-Platinum-Games]
I think the problem people have with the Lionhead is that they never keep their promises. They make good games, but they always come up short of expectation.

The problem with Peter, is that he promises so much about his game, and ultimately only 10% of those promises make it in the actual game. And there are always people who blindly believe whatever they hear.
(I like the guy though, he is always very enthusiastic, a nice chap)

I personally loved Black and White 1&2, and Fable 1. I hope Fable 3 will be awesome when they release it on PC, after the rather bad user reviews on the consoles.

All in all, the graphics were the worst offenders. Nauseating and vomiting, that motion blur + glow. Also, no grey moral area like they told me I'd experience.
Um the king part was where the moral grey area was, as you had to weigh the risk of living standerds and risk of everyone getting killed
Uh, no.

Fable III had the arbitary system of "Either give away money and keep people happy but let them all killed. Or "hoard the money to save them for an invasion but be called a tyrant."

Of course you can invest your personal wealth but this is clearly just "Good/Evil". There is no option to tell your people "A blight is coming in the next year, please bear with me for a year and then I will fulfil every promise I made"

Also, the NPC's all look the same and generic kind, no personal attachment.
Your doing bad to do good I would call this moral gray area

I loved the first Fable. I got into it, the action was fun and the way you progressed and grew throughout the story felt very real. The menu system worked perfectly, the combat was effective and engaging, the atmosphere and music were both very appealling and the story was at a decent enough level of quality to keep you playing and progressing. Not to mention some pretty amazing boss battles and set pieces.

Sadly from Fable 2 and onward they seem to have thrown away a lot of that stuff. Choosing instead to upgrade the bits that didn't need to be upgraded, like adding more detail to the whole 'marriage' aspect. I only want one thing from my NPC's in these games, for them to either be in awe or be in fear of my great exploits.
There is nothing to seperate one NPC from another and you won't get any kind of bond from them, even having children ended up being pointless. I mean I played as an evil character in Fable 3 and was told that my newborn daughter would grow up to be evil, I was expecting her to have pale skin, red eyes and a dark purple dress on and maybe playing with a switchblade knife when she grew up... but no, she ends exactly the same as all the other NPC children.

Also not helped is that the menu system has become more and more simplified with, incredibly, makes everything more confusing. Plus the combat changed too much I felt, with a new magic casting system that plays differently and a significantly less amount of weapons. I dunno I think the other two Fable games cut down on all the bits that I liked while adding in stuff I didn't ask for.

That said, I was still able to play Fable 3 the whole way through and actually at points came close to feeling like I did back in the good old days. So I can't say I hate the Fable games or Peter Molenuex as a whole, they've just dissapointed me from time to time.

This. I think if they implemented every idea Pete had, we'd never see a Lionhead game.

Fable was awesome.
Fable 2 was OK.
I dislike Fable 3. I dislike it a lot. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.255418-Sassafrass-Reviews-Fable-III]

On the "black and White" series, not touched it. So...yeah. There you go.

Oh yes I think you are the only one who loves the series. I mean I have this game here called Fable that I painstakingly spent large amounts of time on trying to perfect my Demon Archer Assassin, and this game called Fable 2 which I enjoyed completing and creating a hero who looks similar to shale from DA and this other game called Fable 3 where I saved my kingdom, the girl and created Santa Claus in time for christmas. There's also this other game called Black and White 2 which I still have installed on my computer. Not because I like the game of course, just to bog down the system for my disadvantage. /end of sarcasm.

Note to OP and other people planning on making a similar thread about 'X game', you are never going to be the only one. Now I'm off to find out whether I can pull off being an evil Santa that invades other players' worlds.

I never really got into Black and White, but I do like the Fable games. I think there's a LOT that could make them better if Lionhead slapped Molenuex away from the design table every now and again and got his ideas reviewed, but I do like them. The biggest problem is, they're very, very easy games. In 2 & 3 you cannot get a game over screen and the thing that made me quit playing Fable 1 was when I finished the game for the fifth time in a row sustaining zero damage (no seriously, no damage at all, five times in a row - as to why I played it five times in a row, speedrun competitions in that game are great fun).

I'm a big fan of Fable. And I like Molyneux as a person. He's got a few poor habits but he's a passionate and genuine dude.

He doesn't say things because he's a liar, he says things because he's so ambitious. When he says they've made "the perfect game", he's not building up hype, he's just so fucking proud of what the team did that he blurts out some huge exaggeration.
Honestly, I don't see why people dislike him. Dislike his games, sure, but the dude himself seems like a perfectly decent fellow.

That said, I was pretty disappointed with Fable 3. I loved the first one/The Lost Chapters, liked the second, and just found the third lacking.
I still enjoyed it, don't get me wrong. I just think it's the weakest so far.

No. That's just a clear line between Good/Evil.

The context. The Situation and the choices you get consist of "Press A or X". Connected to those buttons that bottles down to "Do Good or Evil".

The situation Lionhead put you completely breaks any illusion of choice. Where is my option to rally my people and tell them for their sake and the kingdom, we have to struggle on meagre ends for a year so we can all live peacefully?

But I am done with this game, sure it has it's charm but the one moral grey area Fable 2 did right, was in the Spire. I felt a real struggle, even if it was minimal.
really dont understand whay you think moral grey is.
I wanted to play a good character but I still choose a few evil options to earn enough money to save everyone if thats not moral grey i dont know what is in your books.

http://gamerlimit.com/2009/05/great-debate-the-moral-grey-area/

Seriously, what Fable offers you isn't a moral grey dilemma. That is simply choosing between TWO extremes without any actual thought. All it revolves is money. Simply mixing up good and bad choices = Doesn't make a grey moral area.

Also note how a meter keeps your Evil/Good side in check, meaning all grey decision and the consequences are already pre-determined for you. You either do bad or good.

But whatever man, if you think that is moral grey area, I think you missed out on a lot of great titles the past few years with actual depth and any meaning, emotional/gameplay wise.
I made some evil choices to save lives so does that make my choice evil I could let people die at the cost of better living or I could lower their living and saves lives, both are right and wrong at the same time.

"But whatever man, if you think that is moral grey area, I think you missed out on a lot of great titles the past few years with actual depth and any meaning, emotional/gameplay wise."
wtf? apart from you sounding like a troll why would thinking this make me miss out on other titles?

Can we buy a house together and be best friends forever? Pleeeaaaase?

The only original Xbox game I have (that I play, my sister plays the others) is Fable: TLC. I also have the Limited Collector's editions of Fable 2 and 3. I have Fable: TLC on PC as well (mainly for modding) and The Movies.
I have yet to play Black and White. I've been looking for them, on and off, for two years. EB and Game never seem to have them in stock when I come in (just like Shadow of the Collosus).

So, I guess I can say, I like Lionhead's games, but I do admit that since Fable 2, there have been quite a few mistakes in the series. Hell, Fable: TLC isn't perfect, but it's my favorite of the three (and probably my favorite game to date, but it's hard to know).

Dude you're like an actual idiot, in fable3 you're just choosing between good and bad, and even if you're doing bad to do good, that really doesn't count as a dilemma. Christ that part of the game really pissed me off, I mean i could have said id fix everything in a year, and told the people of albion that some crazy shit was on its way and we'd have to rough it for a bit, but most of all i hate how the game assumes that the only way to make money for the country is by doing evil stuff, i mean seriously what the hell?
Can you give me an example of what you think is morally grey as I cant think of a situation that is not good or bad if you only consider the present.
The game does not assume Evil is the only way to make money, don't know how you came to that conclusion.
Also If I told my kingdom that they were going to be wiped out by army of monsters they would call you crazy.

dilemma: state of uncertainty
I WASN'T SURE when I was making a choice on the drinking tax I later picked no tax so everyone can drink, only to later find that everyone was drunk all the time leaving me unhappy with my decision. Thus I was left with a load of drunk NPC no extra money in my pocket.

I'm a Fable fanboy.

Fable: The Lost Chapter will always be on my top 5, while Fable 2 is still above average to me, and I enjoyed Fable 3 for a good while, though I'd say it's the worst out of the three.

I am a huge fan of everything I've played by them...Which is just Fable 1-3 and B&W1.
