Am I the only one who only uses the beginner weapon?

I don't know why but whenever I play any game I seem to stick with the first weapon you get. I never touched any weapon besides the Plasma Cutter in Dead Space, and never bothered to use anything else besides the assault rifle and Sledgehammer in Red Faction Guerrilla. So am I the only one who does this?

I use starter weapons all the time, some of them are the most enjoyable weapons.

Beaten to it again!

I am seriously sick of people using the phrase "Am I the only one who..."

Hey now, I take pride in having beaten every Ratchet and Clank game with nothing but the wrench.

And Fallout 3's Type 17 is even weaker than the starting gun, but I use it anyway.

No, you're not.

I used the assualt rifle all thorugh Halo on all the difficulties. It was so much fun to charge around shredding everything, even if the pistol was more effective.
Still using the pistol right up to the end of Half Life, it does more damage per bullet than the MP5 and it's more accurate. Granted in OpFor the first gun you get is the deagle...

Beat Half Life 2 with just the crowbar. I dare you.
No, I haven't even HL2.
I currently tend to just use the pistol because the SMG drains ammo and has no accuracy.
...I haven't got very far.

I'm not sure that I go with the starter weapon as a habit. I tend toward the weapon with the most ammo, which often turns out to be the starter weapon. That plasma cutter is awesome, though.

Actually, in Dead Space, that's not that weird because the Plasma Cutter is easily one of the top tier guns in that game, topped only by a fully upgraded Pulse Rifle. The others were just kind of wank. Fun to use, but way too cumbersome.

The "starter" gun is often one of the best all around guns in the game unless the devs are just trying to outright troll you, or you're playing a RPG of some sort.

You're definitely not the only one. When I feel like challenging myself when I play Quake II, I like to see how far through the game I can get using only the Blaster. I tend to die as soon as a Tank shows up, but it's fun to try all the same. In Call of Duty I tended to do the same thing as well, although in that case it was because the starting weapon was a decent all-rounder. You just can't beat a Thompson submachine gun.

Really? I'm very impressed. I really like the assault rifle, not because it's the most practical weapon, but because it's just fun to hose your enemies with bullets. That being said, whenever I tried to use it on Legendary I tended to die a few seconds later.

In games where they can still be effective at later levels, why not?

In San Andreas, I'd switch to a Tec-9 from the starter pistol as soon as i got it.
In GTA IV, Thanks to cover, i ended up using my 9mm more then my Shotgun or SMG.

In Perfect Dark Zero, I still tend to use the Falcon despite the fact that i've unlocked assault rifles by that point.

Well no... however, sort of... it's tricky for instance, if you upgraded the plasma cutter, and I'm confident you did, you're no longer using the beginner weapon you're using a more powerful, faster, better variation of it.

However, in games with weapons that cannot be upgraded... no, it makes no sense unless you specifically want to make it more difficult for yourself.

Also, am I the only one who thinks there's too many am I the only one threads? Oh, nevermind hi Machines Are Us.

I use the double pistols on FEAR whenever I can. That's twice the starting weapon.

I believe its Unreal 2 where your starting rifle will be in your hands most of the game, you only ever get specific tools for different scenarios rather than a bigger assault rifle.

Seriously? That's pretty epic.

I don't usually use nothing except the starting weapon, but it's rare that I'll ditch the starting weapons altogether.
At level 20, I was still using my 10mm pistol in Fallout 3.

In dead space I did play through with only the starter cutter to get the trophie and it was no harder than when I used all the weapons. Also in call of juarez 2 I never really felt the need to switch weapons out as the starter guns where effective enough as was the starter riffle. There where better guns but they where by no means nessisary to get through the game.

I always love pistols, which is usually the starting weapon in an FPS. Pistol headshots are awesome!
And I also used the starting weapon in Dead Space up to the end so it's not that weird.

I wonder if I can raid with my starting dagger in WoW ...

I did it in dead space because there was a trophy for it and i really could not be bothered to change to any other weapon. other than that i do try to use every weapon i lay my hands on if only to circulate ammo
