Am I the only one who only uses the beginner weapon?

Do Ebony and Ivory count as starter weapons? They were too damn useful in Devil May Cry 3 for me to ever not have them equipped, and even in the original DMC, I switched back to using them for the final boss, since their fire rate is ungodly.

I think that's it, really. If the starter weapon manages to be useful, whether that be through plentiful ammunition, large or infinite ammo stocks, good firing rate compared to damage...I'll use it. Otherwise, no, but mostly because I go out of my way to use every weapon I have.

I always use the starting weapon in a game just because I get used to it a lot faster. And typically ammo is easier to find.

I don't usually do that. In Resident Evil 4, I sold the handgun as soon as I had enough money to buy the stronger one, (I believe it was the Red9 that came next.)

In CS:S I use the USP quite often. A headshot on an unarmored target at close to medium range is a kill. :) even two headshots will destroy a helmet target. Against armor sadly, it's a pain to get a kill with. Making aiming for the head more important. ;)

That's what I loved about the DMC series. No one weapon was ever rendered obsolete. Instead, their usefullness was dictated by need. Ebony and Ivory were the fast rapid fire weapons. The shotgun had stopping power, at a decreased rate of fire. The Grenade Launcher was ALL umph!, and mega slow. :) Every weapon had it's place, and creature it was effective on. ;)

Still, I'm sad to admit that I rarely found a use for Nightmare-Beta (powerful, but drains magic) and Artemis (near worthless outside of Gunslinger)...other than looking really cool.

Just to clear the deck - you are never the only person who .

In some games I stick with the starter weapons, most of the time I don't. I kept the plasma cutter as my staple weapon in Dead Space (primarily because it was accurate, powerful, long ranged and worked exceedingly well against most anything), but that is a rare exception. Most of the time I'll choose the best weapon I can get my hands on for the situation.

another example of a good set of starting weapons would be CoD4, the MP5 is still one of the most common weapons despite being the first SMG, and the M16 is common enough even among vets, and lastly the starting sniper rifle whose name alludes me is still my personal favorite over the Barrett 50. cal

I do this with some battlefield 2142 classes. The starter sniper and assault rifles and machine gun are just so great!

Man, the Force Beam and the Line Cutter were the best weapons in Dead Space. And the Ripper was a barrel of laughs as well.

But no, unless I get rewarded for it (ie, unlockables/achievements) then I usually try to get the best available weapons in games.

Really? I'm very impressed. I really like the assault rifle, not because it's the most practical weapon, but because it's just fun to hose your enemies with bullets. That being said, whenever I tried to use it on Legendary I tended to die a few seconds later.
Yeah on Legendary it's useless against Elites and vehicles. You need to use it with the Plasma pistol to strip off their shields and stun them, then it cuts down Elites surprisingly well. But for vehicles I used something else.
Later on you can swap the plasma for a shotgun to get the same effect.
