Yup, you're the only one!

My personal adoration for the series died off after GTA 3.
1 and 2 were my favourites in the series by a long shot.
Part of me misses the top down gameplay, but I'm still partial to the PS2 entries in the series (especially Vice City and GTA3). Those seemed to have been the last games that had Rockstar's anarchic sense of humor down pat. It just became more "Dr-dr-dr-drama!" and bitter as the games went on.

GTA 2 was...interesting.
Zaibatzu for life..oh, and the one random phrase that will never leave my mind...

"Good work! Mission Accomplished. Want to bang a Bio-*****?"

I'll probably get in trouble for this, and it will most likely be pulled before anyone can see it, but screw it. Look what was leaked online!
Wow...bitter and snappy as all fuck.
But hilarious all the same.

Huh.

As for me personally? I have no real interest in the series, but don't look down on people who do.
Yeah, usually I would have to call you out for this. Usually, I would say something like "For fuck's sake. Hyperbole is a thing. There are tons[footnote]Not actual tons, mind you. I figure I should clarify that, so you don't get confused.[/footnote] of phrases that don't mean exactly what they say that just about everyone uses all the time.[footnote]I mean, not ALL the time, that would be impossible. Again, I wouldn't want you to get confused.[/footnote] That's how language WORKS. He KNOWS he's not literally the only one, that's not he meant and you KNOW it. When someone says it's raining cats and dogs, you don't expect to see household pets falling out of the sky, and you don't get to blame the person who said it for giving you false information. Now can everyone just please agree to drop this stupid, petty, nonsensical complaint forever?"

But in this case...Yeah, this thread is pretty pointless. "Am I the only one who really loves this major franchise? Because I'm pretty sure I love it more then anyone else. Discuss!"

....Seriously, OP. What? Was that just a really odd way of saying "Let's talk about how great GTA is?" Or are you just trying bait people like our friend Olas up there?

Go replay GTA I and tell me it's your favourite. I'll bet my left nut that's not gonna happen, my friend.
Why did you edit out the part of your post where you claimed I only said this because I'm a hipster asshole who wants to feel special and being elitist for the sake of it? That's sweet of you. I'll let you in on a secret though; I'm not a hipster. I'm just old.

Yes, I haven't played GTA since it's release. Same with GTA 2. Same with GTA 3. Same with Vice city, San Andreas, and IV.
I enjoyed GTA 1 and GTA 2 at their release more than I've enjoyed any other GTA game at its respective release. Hence, they are my two favourite in the series.

Why are games held up to modern standards? Citizen Kane isn't a very good movie comparing it with modern filmmaking techniques, but people consider it the best movie ever made - and it doesn't even have colour in it.

It's a joke, dude. I'm not so dense that I don't know what figurative language is. The comic is sarcasticly responding to a phrase that the internet uses way too much and often innapropriately (as a billboard for someone's own opinion disguised as a discussion point) by treating it as if it were a literal question instead of addressing the topic the sender actually wanted to discuss.

So basically I'm making fun of his inability to better articulate himself, not what you apparently thought.

Think about it. When was the last time you saw anyone use the phrase "Am I the only one who X" in a way that wasn't just a forced attempt to throw their opinion up in the air?

Oh no, I understand the logic. I just think you're misunderstanding the phrase "Am I the only one". It not supposed to be an opinion disguised as a question, it's an opinion in the form of a rhetorical question. Nobody's trying to "trick" you into think it's anything else. You are not "supposed" to read it as an actual question and be "fooled" into answering. You're supposed to read it as what it is: A question that was asked not in expectation of an answer, but simply to make a point. Sure, he could've just said...uh...."Who else really likes GTA?" and would've gotten the same result, but I don't think one phrasing is objectively better than the other.

Although like I said, in this particular case, exactly what point he's driving at in the first place is more than a little nebulous.

PS: Sorry if my first post came off as a little harsh. I was joking a bit, too. I think I may of made this whole conversation a bit too sarcastic, and I apologize.

PPS: Why exactly does the captcha think it knows my movie-watching habits better than I do?

To any question that starts with, "Am I the only one who," the answer is always no. I guarantee that no matter what the game is, there is always someone who loves or hates it as much as you do. I do not share your passion for the series, but it's clear that many people do. Up until its release, almost any forum or comments section about Saints Row 4 included several comments talking about how much better GTA 5 is going to be. Personally, Vice City was the only GTA game I really got in to (I thought GTA 3 was just decent and all the other ones just bored me).

I know most people have played and liked GTA, but does anyone love it like I do? For more than just running over hookers and cops, but for being one of the greatest gaming experiences of all-time. I love the cities, music, style, characters, humor, freedom, and for combing all of those for an amazing game. Am I alone?
Between me and you, yes.
I find it no more than average in all respects aside from some old technical achievements. I have more fond memories from Mercenaries 2: World In Flames than IV and VC combined. I just don't give a toss about anything 'gangsta' or 'maffia,' so GTA boils down to be just an annoyingly closed driving simulator/collectible car game.
