...my 360 has held its own for the better part of 2 years now, no problems, no "red ring of death", no graphic glitches. Although i will say this, i've bent over backwards trying to hook it up to my PC... and STILL no success. I honestly think they (as in, microsoft) should definitely work on a "plug-and-play" interface between the PC and 360.... you shouldn't require a MSCE degree to watch vids, view pics or listen to streaming music on the xbox... after all, it's basically a PC wrapped up in console "clothing" ... having said that, i have no other gripes about the machine... it STILL blows my mind, gaming wise....

Mine has been working fine, got it in 2007 for my birthday. The worst that has happened to it is that my Wii tipped over and hit it lightly. Console rivalry? Oh, my friends got RROD'd
while i was at his house and he covered it in towels for some reason.

yeah, i've heard of folks covering the 360 in towels after the RROD... it overheats the CPU enough to reset it... then you get about 12 seconds of usage out of it, before reaching for the towels once more...

the whole RROD debacle is caused by the insulation pads between the housing and the CPU... they melt pretty easily (thanks to microsoft being so "cheap" on parts)... once the pads disintegrate, the CPU comes into contact with the casing, and bam! Ring o' Red... apparently, its a good idea to open up the xbox (goooodbye warranty!) and replace those little pads with something a bit more substantial... like a heat-resistant gel or somesuch... microsoft offers that as a free service to all those poor gamers who suffer as a result of their impatient design, i think... i'm not sure on all the details, because my warranty is pretty much null and void after i chipped the beast... it happened to a friend, and he sent his box away... 4 weeks later, it was back, and it had an extra hard-drive attached (he removed his before shipping it ... he obviously didn't want his awesome "i'm on level 2" halo savegames deleted...)

I've had mine for nearly a year, and it only occasionally freezes up, which is cool. My friend had his for probably 2 years, and then got the red ring of death on it, so I'm hoping mine will last certainly at least as long.

Surprisingly my old Xbox (about 3/4 years old now) is still working pretty OK, but freezing up is now becoming a bit of an issue.

I've had mine for about 2 years now, and it's running... sorta. It freezes when things get busy on the screen.

Well, I had one problem, what with my drive eating my disks (my Halo 3 disk was pretty fucked up, to the point that I couldn't play the last level), but from that point, it's been smooth sailing.

I do have a friend who complained about his console freezing on him about 5 minutes after starting it up. I asked him how the lights flashed, and he said "3 red lights...". After sending his one for repair, he hasn't had any problems. Well, none that I've heard of.

My first one wouldn't open the tray after about a week. The second one has been motoring along for over a year now, gets used about every second day and has shown no signs of packing it in.

I've had mine since Christmas and the only thing that really messes with it is Guitar Hero 3. It occasionally freezes up and requires me to turn it off and on. Mind you, I've barely moved it. But my mate modded some of the case for me :D

Yay!

Yeah I was wondering the same thing, I've had mine for one month short of a year now and mines run smoothly ever since I got it. But the horror stroies I've heard about them have alwways made me wonder if a I got a special 360 or something.

I wish they would make consoles like they made the Gamecube, mine fell of my shelf (about 1.2m up) 10 or 12 times on to hardwood flooring and it never had so much as a hiccup in its running. They don't make them like that any more.

my 360 works perfectly fine and has worked fine for the past couple of years... unlike my friends' who completely decimated his console after losing several matches of Rainbow Six Vegas... and when that happened... he lost all contents of his hard drive and so had to get a new hard drive (i just got the 120 GB hard drive then so i gave him my old 20 GB hard drive) and then he tried to do the account recovery... and forgot his password... both of them... the password to his "email" (the one he NEVER used) and the password to his Windows Live ID... so he had to start ALL OVER... from scratch... his Gamer Score was at like 17000 after several months... well... it just sucked... for him at least... so he had to make a new account and is curently pushing 30000 gamer points... but still doesn't take very good care of his console... and is right now on his 3rd... i think... well he bought the Halo 3 special edition 360 and recoverd his account again (correctly) so he's on his 3rd... while i.. who RECOMMENDED the console to him... am still on my first... so he continually plays the console... yet still complains about "hardware problems" and that "microsoft sux" although both of us bought our consoles at least one year after launch...

[edit] oh... and i currently have had 3 RRoD... turns out it was actually the power cable unpluging when my bro hits the wire out of the socket...

Mine was a veteran. I got it the day 360s hit the open market. Mine never gave me a single problem...was always perfect. That is, until a week ago. I had been playing Ninja Gaiden 2 in HD, and I got bored of getting my rear end handed to me on Mentor mode (too many guys with incendiary shurikens :( ) Anyway, my girlfriend came over later that night and we decided to watch Across the Universe (guess who's idea that was...DEFINITELY NOT MINE!) and when I opened the disc tray, it red lighted permanently. Just more proof to add to the theory that the presence of women (even asian ones) cause 360s to red light. And yes, she does know that I blame her for Red Ringing my Veteran!

I took my Xbox to a Power to the People Station with some brass tubing, rubber hose and a bottle of liquid nitrogen. Works great now except it hisses and ticks now.

Well mine was decent lasted a year and a few days, died the day after new years when i had the audacity to try and play hitman blood money on it. It crashed after eating and jizzing on my COD4 can't say my ps3 is all that better though. Plays well and quiet i guess since the little fan is drowned out by shooting on screen, But it gets annoying when its in standby and that fan is constantly spinning.

Well, some people are apparently quite happy with theirs.

All I know is that when I got one, I treated it the same way I treat all my other consoles (and to put that in context, no other console I've ever owned has ever broken down while under my care, and I've owned a lot of them), and it bricked after a month and a half.

After I got it back (which took a fucking MONTH), I treated it like it was made of crystal, and it STILL bricked after another two months.

And that was the version that called itself the "Premium" 360.

It's cause some Xbox's are full of fail. Most, however, if treated right, aren't. It's trying to tell you not to play Crackdown =]
