This video has probably been posted already, but I don't really wanna go through 7 pages to check for it.

Morgan Freeman completely schools this interviewer and makes perfect sense.
Since the video popped up again, I feel this is a good time to add:

I looove how hilariously uncomfortable that interviewer (Mike Wallace?) is.
He's all "Hoooly shit, he got slightly agitated! Am I a racist now? Does this make me a racist? Help!"
Wouldn't it have been great if people just stopped caring and quit being so awkward with racial issues?
It's less that he is afraid of being racist as it is Morgan Freeman being angry at him. Morgan Freeman, calm and collected character, is upset at you, you will be uncomfortable from that.

Hmm, yeah.
I still think there were quite a few worries about being accused of being racist flying through his head though.

Didn't you listen to the video? He's Jewish, therefore its impossible to accuse him of racism. Minorities can't be racist you silly. /double standard

*shrug* I think it's just another way to single out a group of people. It's ridiculous, and in thirty years, no one will care about race anymore. Racism, I think, is dying. It's a product of a different era, and the way kids are raised today makes so that nobody cares about it anymore (eg I know people look different based on where their ancestry is, but that's it. I don't think any less of them. I don't form an opinion. No racism here.)

I don't know how it is in the 'mericas, but I always thought of jews as one of the minority groups that could easily be accused of racism.

I have a bit of a hard time telling jews from caucasians. They all look the same to me. [sub]Harr harr harr[/sub]

I've never really enjoyed Black History Month. Being half african and raised by my single parent black mother, I was always encouraged to get involved with the culture. But for some reason every Black History Month a good majority of africans I know will use the sentence:
"I/We (or any other group terms) went through the slave trade."
I find the whole notion to be a complete crock of shit myself. Oh dear, some guy you never met, never will and never gave two shits about before today was a slave on a cotton plantation and now, because it's Black History Month, you want to get all fucking angsty on his behalf?

Let me give you a history lesson; My grandparents generation dropped bombs on Germans. Germans dropped bombs on them. We also killed a bunch of Italians. Italians killed a bunch of us. For those of American persuasion, your grandparents commited an attrocity of such an unimaginable scale that, upon being informed Hiroshima was wiped out, the Japanese didn't believe the reports because no power on earth could possibly destroy a whole city like that.

Go further back; my ancestors butchered Europeans in World War One, and everyone else before that. The history of my nation, and by extension my race, is a long tale of bloodshed, plague, death and destruction. The land where I live now has been ruled over by Celts, Hiberno Norse, Romans, Saxons and god knows who else. Tell me, just how far back am I supposed to look for an axe to grind? Am I entitled to stomp around northeast Europe ranting at how their ancestors came over in Longships and murdered mine? Perhaps I should demand restitution from the descendents of the Zulu nation for the people they killed?

All that Black History Month, and all related events do, is paint Black Culture as a collection of sad and pathetic people who cling desperately to some perceived crime against them in the hope of gaining sympathy for the fact they were too busy taking drugs to go to college. You want Black History Month? How about HUMAN History Month? Hell, you can condense the whole fucking thing into one sentance, and I'll do it for you:

Human Beings Are Bastards.

I'm not a terribly big fan because it promotes more exclusion based on cultural background. If it was something like a celebration in which everyone was invited to partake in the rich cultural history than it would be really cool and enjoyable. Then again the whole culture days thing in school seems to fail so it's probably better off left as is.

Uhhhh... that's exactly what it is.
Not really. What you see nowadays is instead an emphasis on trivia and civil war era history and has little if anything to do with culture of black americans or africans. Perhaps it is different where you live, but in my schools growing up there was no real celebration of culture.

Well Cripes, you don't wait for schools to do that stuff, obviously. School curricula are about as flexible and maneuverable as the Titanic, waiting for them to change significantly is like waiting for the Pope to admit error. Nice thing about BHM is that there are more people than just schools doing educational work in most North American cities with a black population of more than a few dozen people. That's part of the point.
That's comforting to hear. I'm glad that people get to experience that culture. I'm sure as a kid it would have been wasted on me, but looking back I wish I had participated more in cultural events.

Anyone seen that Seinfeld statement made by one of the actors in court when he got called up on racism charges?
That's Stormfront white supremacist rhetoric being falsely stuffed in Michael Richards' mouth. You shouldn't circulate it, it effectively defames the guy by association.
$17... wait what?

So he DIDN'T say that stuff?
I was sent one of those chain emails claiming it was him which is where I referenced it.
If that's not the case then I rescind my statement.

^^Pretty interesting read. It's only about 2 pages, so please read it through.

OP: Gotta agree with good ole Freeman on this one. Where's Jewish History Month? Where's Native American History Month? Both groups have been the victims of racism and genocide, why do they get no special treatment? The month is unnecessary even as an educational tool. Anyone who's taken AP US History in high school can attest to the course's near obsession with the plight of minorities. It even fails as a method to make Black History "more relevant" for a month -

Black history month has somewhat lost its significance among American society as the month of February is also American Heart Month, International Boost Self-Esteem Month, International Embroidery Month, Library Lovers Month, National Cherry Month, National Children?s Dental Health Month, National Snack Food Month, and Return Shopping Carts to the Supermarket Month.
Return Shopping Carts to the Supermarket Month. I shit you not.

I have a few issues with this: 1) That article was written in 1993, almost 20 years ago. 2) He didn't even say anything, or provide any proof. He provided 1 personal experience in that whole article, and draws an opinionated conclusion based on it. That's called insufficient evidence. 3) I have to believe racism is dying. I'm part of a generation that, for the most part, doesn't even think about it. People are people. That's it. Call me naive. Call me misguided. But are you really going to try and disprove an optimism that world could really use more of? I'm giving you my point of view. I think it's a pretty good one, don't you?

Tip for Life: You're never the only person.

EDIT: (To add some sort of content to my post) I agree, Black History month is basically reverse racism. It, from what I've seen, does more harm than good.
Tip for Life: Hyperbole is a perfectly acceptable use of the English language and you should really stop being so literal.

And no, OP. You aren't alone. Morgan Freeman doesn't like it, either.

Now, I normally hate "/thread", but...Come on. It's Morgan fucking Freeman. [/thread]
Thank you so much for introducing me to that video, thats great.

But on topic though, as many have already said it should just be part of any study on American History and Culture, since it is a part of it.
