Am I the only person who kind of hates Valve?

A PC developer that has some console releases as well. It doesn't matter if they primarily develop for PC, the second the throw out a console release, they're also a console developer. And that makes them eligible for every complaint and piece of criticism that every other console developer gets.

I just had to quote this and thank you for the argument i'm going to aim at everyone who tells us PC gamers not to complain when we get a shit port.

So when a company release a shitty port on PC and we complain and get the argument "well PC isn't the primary market so it's consoles first".

And now Valve, who primarily deal with the PC, release a dodgy port or 2 console players complain but it's okay, because they have then made a console game that makes them console devs so they can complain....

This my friends, is the cry of hypocrisy.

If PC gamers aren't allowed to complain about shitty ports because "they were developed for consoles" then concole gamers aren't allowed to complain about Valves shitty ports because they were "developed for PC first".

Nah. Even if I didn't like their games (which incidentally I have universally loved), Valve's policies of not releasing a game until it's finished and polished to a shine are a welcome opposite to the gaming standard of rush-publish-harvest_monies-repeat.

Fuck Valve. They are a shit developer that makes a few good games and just as many average or poor ones. They have a shitty development cycle. And, they are responsible for one of the biggest forced DRM platforms out there for the PC market so they get no love from me for there focus on PC gaming either.

The only problem I have with Valve is that they have gone so fucking long without giving is any news about Half life 2 ep 3. Even just a sentence along the lines of "we are working on it but it is super secret so stop asking" would be good but they seem to not be working on it and do not seem to give a fuck about it either.

Well, generally PC gamers complain that the console itself is the problem, instead of the developer. They complain that consoles are ruining gaming and blah blah blah.

But, yeah. It doesn't matter what platform you develop for, if you're going to release multi-platform, all of your versions need to be top-notch. There's no excuse for a bad port on either platform. It's just developers not putting in the extra effort.

You never are, I never liked them. Their games are over hyped and over rated, plus just not my type of game I find to fun.

Afaik the reason they have trouble with DLC is because MS has decided that ALL DLC shall cost money on xbox live NO MATTER WHAT. And Valve wants to give us their DLC free.

If you seriously manage to fault Valve for that there is no convincing you.

Valve recently released DLC for Portal 2. For free. They are releasing MOD TOOLS so players can make their own levels. Instead of bleeding customers for a few extra buck with shit content like some other developers.

Valve are not gods, they are not infallible, but they are damn well lightyears ahead of IW/Treyarch!

This right here, completely correct. Valve is possibly the best PC game developer (If they didnt take forever to release their games, Episode 3, where are you?! But seriously thats their only problem).

On the DLC Thing, Valve make great games, these games sell well, (I mean look at Counter strike, Half life and Left 4 Dead games) so they have enough expendable income to make Free DLC, which FURTHER improves their already good reputation which means everyone will buy their next game, Repeat..

Its all about public image and Valve pull it off perfectly, now they just gotta be more prompt with their release dates xD

Valve likes to update their games constantly. Microsoft punishes that. Valve likes the advantage a big hard drive gives so updates wont clog up all the space.

Valve is a PC developer that ports games to consoles. Valve got a different policy that requires the freedom of their own platform (Steam). Rather than blaming Valve for not making DLC or updates consider who's restricting them.
