Gamefaqs a little Q&A about roms, found here:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/help/entry.html?cat=24

The third topic is of interest to me. It says you can make one rom (copy) of a CD you own.

Here's my situation:

I have the emulator epsxe and quite a few playstation CD roms (I own a playstation, just so you know). I used to play off the CDs directly using my computer, but that stopped when my computer's CD-drive broke. I'm now unable to play my Nuclear Strike CD on my computer (I like to play on the go sometimes), so I've thought of a plan.

I'm thinking about putting the game disk in my brother's or my mother's computer, copying the game data onto a USB, then transfer that data onto my computer, where I can play it with epsxe.

Now, my question is this: Is this in line with what was said on gamefaqs regarding the topic? I've misunderstood things before, so I want to make sure I didn't infer something that wasn't meant.

NOTE: I'm not trying to encourage the use of all roms. I just want to make sure I have not misinterpreted what the law allows concerning my own game.

If I knew who else to ask, then I wouldn't have asked it on this site. My apologies for any inconvience as a result of this (which I hope will amount to zero).

You can get a brand new CD/DVD drive with burning capability and RW support for $30 nowadays. I know the thought of opening your computer, and messing with the innards is daunting for a lot of people, but trust me when I say that it's as simple as turning a screwdriver. If you can replace the batteries in a remote control, you can change a disk drive.

That said; Yes, it's perfectly legal to rip CDs that you own, and copy them as you see fit, as long as you're the only one using the copies. It's your legitimately bought software, you can do whatever you want with it, short of giving multiple copies to other people.

-edit-
Oh, and I like your taste in games; Nuclear Strike was one of the greats.

I agree with you about Nuclear Strike. I used to not like it, but now I love it.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I have no source of income right now, which is why I haven't got a new CD-drive yet.

As long as you use something like power ISO to rip a 1:1 copy of the disc onto a USB drive, it will work perfectly.

Copies are legal as long as you own an original 'copy' of the game, as far as I know. It'll count as a back-up. Selling burned copies is a no-go, though.
