That's one hell of a misleading title. Was the author trying to lure in readers or something?
Still, it's funny to read comments about non pc enthusiats reacting to the supposed demise of the company xD

Hardcore fan of AMD processors, (i dont see any sense in paying 3x the cost for something that is 0.13 GHz faster and comparable in all other areas, albeit runs a little hotter, but ill take the $600 on the proc and the $100 i saved on the motherboard and buy a $90 cooling system that allows me to overclock it to 4.0GHz)
Im very picky when it comes to video cards, i was a fan of the 8800, i have used and would have recommended the 260GTX before they released the 460GTX, im now in love with the 460GTX, cooler, quieter, more powerful, and cheaper then the 8800GTOC2, and the 260GTX

Also, the Tech Report link goes to a jpg hosted on techreport.com instead of their rather more informative article [http://techreport.com/discussions.x/19547].

Even though I'm an NVidia guy, (And while on the subject, an Intel guy too) this is still a sad day. I've always considered ATI separate from AMD. Probably still will even after they're gone.

Thanks for letting me know, it's been fixed.

For the record, I also find it entirely hilarious that so many of you are put off by the "misleading" title. That won't be changed, btw.

Well damn, that's really not good. Oh, I agree that nVidia makes the superior product, but that leaves them with virtually no major competition. Expect prices to go up.

I started buying my own hardware at a time when ATI had terrible, terrible support. So Ive always stuck with NVidia, regardless of how rational that is (They're always comparable, no big loss). I was actually a little excited when I first read this: As bad as a monopoly is, more consolidation in parts means less bugs in PC gaming. But now its sounding like all that's happening is a name change. Well, maybe it will streamline the process a little, and make things a little easier for the programing of PC games.

It's about time.

Anyway, NVIDIA FTW!
nvidia is overpriced and is so badly constructed it lasts only 2 years.
you're right there. I've had my old ATI card for about 4 years and it's still purring away beautifully.

I'll probably be updating to Nvidia soon anyway tho, so I'll see how it goes. I really wanna get an extra gig of RAM as well so I'll be playing Mafia 2 in no time ;P

I'm currently running Intel/Nvidia, so for the near future this doesn't effect me much. Still, this seems an odd choice. As far as hardware goes, ATi has had a much stronger reputation for its video cards in the last five years than AMD has had for its CPUs, which always seemed to be falling well short of Intel's in benchmark comparisons. I suppose this could be seen as a sign of confidence in their CPU/GPU fusion technology, but I for one would want to see more of it on the market before I went and ditched the ATi brand.

Well that sucks...
I always liked ATI, it always was nicely priced and got the job done. I think Nvidia is overpriced...

Name change is a name change.

Doesn't effect me though, I'm more a fan of Nvidia.

I've been a pc gamer for 15 years. Never once owned an ATI, lol.
That's pretty amazing. I've bounced back and forth over the years, I've had no loyalty to either brand but they've both managed to come up with outstanding hardware over the years. I was an nVidia guy for quite awhile starting back in the TNT days but I loved my Radeon X800 GTO2 (overclocked like crazy) and my 9700 too. Both gave me performance far above and beyond what I could've reasonably expected from them. I actually had a "Rage-enhanced" copy of Mechwarrior 2, before I foolishly traded it for the "Pentium Edition" of the game after I upgraded to Windows 95. Really wish I'd hung onto it.

I've got an Nvidia 7900 series card now, which I'm also very happy with, although the years are starting to show. All in all, I'd have to admit that I've had more trouble with ATI cards over the years than nVidia, but I've also had a lot more ATI cards, so maybe it balances out. Whatever the case, it's a shame to see a once-great name brought low like this, but the writing was on the wall the moment AMD swallowed it up.

I like how people trance about saying "blah blah, Nvidia has a good reputation".

Not only does it induce a mighty Red vs Green flame war, it is also false, Nvidia doesn't have a good reputation.

Anyone own a GTS 250? well, that's actually a 9800GTX in disguise, the same G92 core.
Anyone own a stock GTX 480? I know right, they're the best room heaters in the market.

When did Nvidia lose credibility? After the G80 core. I had a 7800GTX which was the best Graphics card I've ever had. It's a shame that they are such a disgusting company now.

And if any of you green mother fuckers want some troll in you, quote this shit and I will be back.

Nvidia and ATI, Intel and AMD...because pointless poo-flinging-monkey fanboy arguments shouldn't be just for console users!

I was sad to think the best brand in video cards would be stopped. Then I read its just a renaming.

Everyone and their grandmother knows that Nvidia is and always has been better anyways. So it's not exactly any big news.
Your right, only old people think nvidia is any good.
