Have you ever watched Better Off Ted? It was a show that I loved because of it's smart humor. Then they canceled it.

I like South Park (I know it's Canadian) for it's witty commentary of current affairs. It actually takes issues of the day and makes some good jokes at them. Family Guy is just ok - I wouldn't watch it often, but it can be funny. The kind of American humour I really don't like is shows like the Big Bang Theory. Watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmLQaTcViOA

It just isn't funny. Not because it isn't my sense of humour, but there is no intelligence to the jokes involved. America has scrounged genuinely good British TV series such as Shameless and The Office, and ruined them in an effort to bring them to the American market.

My point is American humour is unintelligent and boring to watch. It is juvenile, and I find it actually almost painful to see shows like Two and a Half Men doing well when they are so full of utter crap.
Humor doesn't have a nationality.

If Big Bang Theory isn't funny, it's because Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady aren't funny.

Curse me being tired. Those shows are terrible, yes, but not all American humor is bad. Arrested Development, for example, is fucking hilarious.

I still don't like this country very much, though.
Yeah, Arrested Development is great.

And you can't say that all American humor is terrible. It's like me walking into England, and complaining that everyone I saw in England is White, so therefore everyone in England is white. You just haven't seen anything good.

It's Always Sunny in Philedelphia is a great show. So is Curb Your Enthusiasm. And Scrubs. There's a lot of good stuff out there.

...why does gilmore girls come to mind? My mum likes it, but to me it's just a daughter talking to her mother about some problem, while the mother looks down at her and asks "What? I see no problem." while the daughter argues "No but there is!", however, sometimes the roles are reversed, and the mother is com plaining about a problem...you get the point.
And while they argue, they talk really fast! And then one of them, usually the daughter, leaves the room, ending the argument.

I don't even know if Gilmore girls is American, though. Is it Canadian? You know, like south park?

Try watching Stand Up Comedians instead. And not just big names like Jeff Dunham and Dane Cook, I mean the somewhat less known names. Also Mitch Hedberg.

Wow let's pick out one clip from a long running show where we have no idea what they are talking about, and have no attachment to the characters!! Honestly if you watched a newer episode of Family Guy or South Park with barely any prior knowledge of the show you would probably think they were obscene and horribly not funny. It's like seeing one small clip of a video game about sex then going on national television renouncing that game. I bet you would look pretty stupid and your amazon book ratings would plummet due to your out of context understanding for that particular work.

Don't worry nobody things Big Bang Theory is funny, actually put me to sleep along with two and a half men. But there are shows that are pretty smart and pretty funny. Try Psych, Monk, I know How I Met Your Mother has been posted over and over again for good reason. It's not that American Humor is lacking it's just that for every gem there's ten other crap shows who exist for no other reason than to fill air time. See: Jersey Shore

Edit: BTW I pretty much see any show that airs in America an American show cause lets face it once you introduce something to the American populace it pretty much becomes part of the culture.

Other people like American humor. It's called an opinion. You're not right, and neither are they.
My point is that the jokes involved are less intelligent than those in British shows. Go watch Peep Show. That is genius. Compare it to any widely viewed American comedy show. I'm not arguing which is subjectively better, I'm arguing that British comedy is more intelligent. Please read my post and understand it before replying.
Come on. That's comparing a good show to a bad show. Think of "Not going out" or "My family". I shudder at them. Plenty of English shows are bad it's just England doesn't pump out the volume of shows the US did.

Heck check out Heil Honey if you want to see how bad england can get.

I totally agree that 2.5 men and Big Bang are crap, but Arrested Development is one of my all time TV shows, in any genre. And so so rewatchable. I also like How I Met Your Mother.

On balance I would probably say that there are more British comedies I hold in high regard than American ones, and certainly most of the all time greats are British (for me).

BUT you are a fool if you think there isn't a fair share of utter toss in this country too. Phone Shop anyone? All the waves of dreadful sketch shows that followed Harry Enfield's wake?

Daniel Tosh is German, the Concords are from New Zealand, Russell Peters is Canadian, both Matt Groening and Stephen Colbert have Canadian roots (Matts Dad and Stephen's Grandma!)
bahahaha if your going to do it that way, you can take every single ************ from america and take their "roots" back to wherever they came from. outside of doing "amazing" things, people completely disband the fact of anyone using their "heritage/roots" as their source of awesomeness/power.

comedy doesn't just magically take flight from where you were born, it's what is around you and how you react with it, and if enough people find common occurrences its quite easy to make jokes and be funny.
Sure it does!

You take where you're from (originally), combine that with where you are (if you're outside your homeland)Compare the two... The jokes write themselves.
i would say that is based on the culture around you, not necessarily based on where you are from land wise.

i can go live in florida for 2 years, immediately move to washington on the northwest side of the country, and i guarantee the humor would be massively different. but wait..i'm still in the U.S. am i not?

culture based humor is culture.

On top of the fact that people are pointing out that 3 bad shows (I actually enjoy big bang, and family guy/american dad but whatever) doesn't mean all shows from that country are bad, it's worth noting that two of these are made by the exact same dude.

As in two dudes are making bad comedy.

It's really not much more than troll bait.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is a Brilliant American Comedy, but other than that, its all crap really now. Worst thing is the American Office, what the fuck was the point in calling it "The Office" if they change every character, the story, the setting and the Humor. All it is is "Standerd American Comerdy" using the name "The Office".

But I'll tell ya what though, Amercan Drama's and Serious TV series are 10000x better than British ones, there's: Dexter, Breaking Bad, Lost, The Wire, The Walking Dead, The Sopranoes, and more, all we had in Britain was "Life On Mars" and Ashes to Ashes" (Both the Same Series Really), and now they are over, and I find Serious American Series funnier than there comedy's.

PS: American Completely Ruined there Remake of Life on Mars! -_-

I genuinely enjoy "dumb humor"

It's nice to just laugh at anything that comes my way. If done right, it can be great.

It's why Airplane was good.
