Yeah, I've been hearing that those parts of the game are much, much better than in the original, so I'll probably check it out at some point when I can actually afford to. It sounds like it still has some issues of its own, but it's hard for me not to like the things it does right.
Fair enough :) I'm sure when you do play it though, you'll find a lot of the "issues" reviewers have been harsh about aren't actually issues, but more like reviewers overloading on platforming cos they tried to finish it ASAP (the game is kinda samey all the way through, just like original Alice was), the game is god tier but best enjoyed in multiple settings imo, to avoid platforming overload.

Be warned, the platforming in the original is not good. The combat is actually worse. I love Madness Returns to death, but the original's gameplay was pretty bad.
That's an understatement. I haven't played the new console port, but the original was nearly unplayably bad. The visual design was amazing, and it was a ton of fun to just wander through the levels to see how they re-envisioned the characters, but the platforming was painful at best, and the combat was tedious. After the first couple levels I just turned on god mode to avoid having to reload, and after another couple levels I ended up also setting up a macro to toggle noclip on and off so I could skip some of the worse jumping sections. It's a great world to wander around in and look at stuff, but it's a pretty crappy game.
Then the sequel should be straight up your alley Nalgas, it's platforming and combat are spot on and Alice now controls like a dream ^^

Ah, well, if they think that this minor setback will stop me from buying this game then THEY ARE WRONG! >:)
I'm glad to hear it, this game totally deserves every good PR and sale it can get :)
Thats the truth. I have fum just running aroumd, jumping and dodging. They really got movement down perfectly in the game.

Some parts on it are pretty darn near impossible using a controller, but doable. I had to set the game on easy (and I still died a lot) and turn the sensitivity down a few clicks before I could get the hang of it. Once I did, it was a fun game. And if you're going to play Madness Returns I recommend you play this first because it's fun seeing all the references to the first game.

But how would you know they were references unless you've played the first game?!

Is that based on PC or PS3 gaming?
Either, it's built in the Quake 2 engine and plays somewhat like a third person shooter with some horrible platforming sections... Not to mention, you seem to fly forward when you jump.

It's still a pretty good game, but I wouldn't say £8 worth for "today's standards"

Yar, Alice Madness returns comes with the prequel for free, that is the best way to go ;)
Where is that deal still running? Origin was doing it as a promo, but it ended last Friday.
It's not a deal, it's a code that comes with the box itself (so any new game comes with it), trust I certainly wasn't expecting it when I bought it ;)
Anyone else have any information on this? A friend really wants the first game along with the second. I checked Amazon, and saw no indication of them offering the first with it.

Many of them are simply the way Alice talks to people. For instance, when she sees the Mad Hatter again, her line is, "Hatter! I remember leaving you in quite a state, but not in pieces!" She's talking about fighting him in the first game, although she didn't rip him apart like he is now.
Other ones you wouldn't know unless you played the first game. For instance, a riddle that is posed to you is the same from the first game, and during one part in a chapter, all of the Chesire Cat's lines are straight from the first game. Also, meeting a certain villain again is much more enlightening if you've played the first game.

The original Alice game wasn't THAT bad. It was "floaty", but I never had hair-pulling frustration (the closest I got was the Vale of Tears on the moving leaf). Quick-saving is your best friend and I rarely had any problems beyond that (though I saved very frequently).

I would say, I don't think any console is selling Alice on its own. I do believe it's an add-on only for Madness Returns, not a PSN or XBL game.

But I also think it is absolutely worth playing. It's not really that hard (on easy) or long (6-7 hours), and it was enjoyable in its own right (ice wand is a killer). Also paves the way for Madness Returns, so if you have the option, why not? (and you net a few extra trophies/achievements along the way).

You know how say...new boxes of mortal kombat 9 come with an online pass to discourage reused games and rental?

Same thing with Alice, except the online pass activates the 1st game.
Would certainly explain why digital versions don't seem to come automatically with game except if it's part of a deal.

But if you go into a gameshop and pick up the Alice box you'll find that it mentions the free game on the back.

Otherwise yeah, would be nice if someone else chimes in to show I'm not making this up ;)

Is this just for physical copies/consoles? I was thinking of getting the game on Steam...
Sorry, EA decided to screw us so the offer is no good for PC... even physical copies...

Bugger all. I guess this is why I ask questions. Good to know so I can warn him away, at least.

Thanks for the help everyone, I think I'm gonna wait till it's in a sale and then I'll pick up the second one cheap. If it comes with the first game all well and good, otherwise I'll just get it cheap on PSN!
