British TV is so much more witty and enjoyable. Aside from Doctor Who, I watch a number of British shows regularly and still watch old shows. Just to name a few, Peep Show, Spaced, This is Jinsy, misfits, the office, shameless, The IT crowd, coupling, kingdon, Gavin and Stacy, an idiot abroad, pulling, The shadow line, and Saxondale
Im going to have to agree...as far as sitcoms go I cant think of one american I would say I "like"

I dont liek to call american stuff "stupid" (theres still great stuff) it just lacks subtlety at times

unreleated but I heard the american version of the british crime/drama "life of mars" was pretty good..although short lives, which was probably for the best
The American's have always been good with deep drama's, while we have been good with comedy and making people laugh.

That's pretty much the rule of the thumb, and how it's always been.

In my opinion the American The office is actually better than the British The office. No one is better than Rainn Wilson on the show.

I've heard the American Queer as Folk was better than the British one. Mostly by virtue of not being written by Russell T. Davies. Who then went on to write Torchwood: Miracle Day, the American reboot which was necessitated by his ruining of the original series through Children of Earth. ...Let's not talk about either of those any more than we have to, okay?

Really? I couldn't stand it, to be honest. No subtlety at all, they just revealed everything.

Are you kidding? You're talking about the program that they changed so it actually turned out that they were in fact ON MARS because the ideas of life and death in the British version were too complicated so they just went uhh.. it was all a dream, they were on Mars this whole time! Surprise!

Stay away from the IT crowd! Go on you dirty producers, shoo, shoo!!
As soon as I heard Gene Hunt say 'If anything happens to my car I'm going to come 'round your 'house and stomp on all your toys' the British Life on Mars became sacrosanct. But I'm going to look up the Red Dwarf re-make, should be good for a cringe.

I was a big fan of the first three seasons of the U.S. remake of "The Office."

You can make the argument that there was no need to remake the UK show, but the U.S. version was really really funny and really well acted for a while (in my opinion).

The first three seasons of the American Office are waaay better than the original. It's been not as good since, though. And I quit watching it this season. But the first three were great.

Cue.

"Queue" is to line up, or a line itself ("On queue.")

"Cue" is to prompt.

Anyway, the only US version of a British show I've ever liked is the Office, and while I know a lot of people disagree, I just didn't find the original any good.

This is from someone who generally loves a good British comedy, by the way.

Queer as Folk (US) started good, then meandered. I don't even remember how it ended. I've been reticent to watch the UK version because I've heard how bad it was.

But as far as Russel T Davies goes, I have to say Torchwood was never all that great to begin with. While it had its moments, Harkness only really worked as a character on Doctor Who.

Besides, what was wrong with Torchwood: Miracle day? It added such memorable characters as "Generic Agent" and "Generic Agent's love interest."

No idea if anyone has mentioned Shameless. Haven't seen the English version of it, but holy hell does William Macy make the American version so good.

The only one i can bring to mind is Dragons Den, or Shark Tank as you Americans renamed it.

And it remained good to me simply because the only difference i notice between the two shows is that Shark Tank takes place in a considerably nicer room.

One I can think of off the top of my head:

Coupling (didn't last long - Friends was based of the concept, though.)
The Office
Top Gear (American version is simply atrocious. I may be spoiled by the UK version, though.)
Antiques Roadshow
American Idol
X Factor
America's Got Talent
Who Wants to be a Millionaire
The Weakest Link
Whose Line is it Anyway
Hell's Kitchen
Kitchen Nightmares
Junkyard Wars

I tried watching the US version but it was too painful to watch without the Roy and Jen we all know and love... dont even get me started on the German version!

I like prime suspect it was (UK) originally and then it was remade (US). I thinks it's a pretty good show i never saw the uk version but the american has some cool characters.

I admit I haven't read every single post in this topic, but I'm going to assume that at least one person has gone into a rage and tried to declare that all American remakes of British shows are total crap.

Well I'd like to put the shoe on the other foot here and point to a British remake of an American show.

"Days Like These"

For shame...

However, I will admit that with most British shows, I do prefer the...well...British ones. I never really got into The Office (either one, though I do like the British one slightly better)

I think I'm going to agree with anyone who said Whose Line is it Anyway.

I say the American versions of Wilfred and The Office are much better and funnier than the Aussie and British versions.
