Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Wants Your Fear

The Halloween trailer for Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs is scary stuff, kiddies!

Here's your happy thought for the day: "This world is a machine. A machine for pigs. Fit only for the slaughtering of pigs." Sets a cheery tone, eh?

The new trailer for Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs is admittedly familiar, combining poor lighting, horrific noises and panicked breathing in a manner very similar to its predecessor, Amnesia: The Dark Descent. But why not? It works better than any spring-from-the-darkness monster closet, after all. Being startled is one thing, but actually being scared is something else entirely.

The bit about "we want your fear" isn't just about thechineseroom's lust for your weak-kneed tears, either. The team has invited fans to submit their "screams, whimpers and blood-curdling shrieks of terror" for possible use in the game. Just record your best efforts in WAV, OGG or MP3 format and email them to piggies@thechineseroom.co.uk [mailto:piggies@thechineseroom.co.uk].

"We are on the hunt for the sounds of fear, panic, terror, anguish, torture and horrid, awful death to include in the soundtrack for Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs," the studio wrote. "We don't care who does the screaming. We just want the fear."

I don't know if this has already been said or not, but the studio also confirmed that A Machine For Pigs will feature music by Jessica Curry, who did such wonderful things with thechineseroom's previous project, Dear Esther. Samples of her work on that soundtrack and others can be found at jessicacurry.co.uk [http://www.jessicacurry.co.uk/].

Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs [http://www.aamfp.com/] is currently slated for released in early 2013.

Their dedication to making people shit out their spleens with terror is at the same time admirable and yet it makes me hate them for being so good at it.

Can't wait for this game, even though I have yet to actually finish TDD.

The concept is very cool.. but activating switches and levers with an invisible hand while clearly having a hand on screen holding a lantern just looks all kinds of immersion breakingly silly.

Holy shit.

I could barely get through The Dark Descent. This looks like it's going to be way too much.

Something about Swinemonsters really gets to me. (Heard a story from a family member down in Mexico being haunted by a giant rotting demon pig. Scariest shit I've ever heard.) This whole thing reminds me of that.

If it's in the same level of fright that The Dark Descent, I wonder if I'll even be able to get through this :/

Still, it looks damn good. Day 1 purchase without a doubt. Shame it's still some time away from us.

Day[9] should give that screaming [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJJzTHwVSVA&t=17m40s] thing a go...
I hope they can recreate that scary atmosphere without a spooky old castle.

I'm getting tired of the horror trope of kids (or women, but usually kids) reciting nursery rhymes/singing lullabies with an echo. Really, really tired of it. To the point that, while I was excited for this game, hearing it at the beginning of this trailer almost killed off my interest for the rest of the video.

My fault anyway, I should have remembered that most trailers are awful.

Wait, did thechineseroom work on The Dark Descent? Is Frictional just publishing this or something?

Yep, checked the Wikipedia pages and that is certainly the case. Frictional developed TDD by themselves, and are having thechineseroom develop pigs. I hope this doesn't mean that there's even less game at work here. Cautiously optimistic.

Is it bad that the area with the cages already had me nearly weeing with fear? This is going to be interesting. Hopefully I will actually be -able- to play this, as opposed to simply cowering with fear. Also, they want screams? ON IT.

Welp!

Looks like I'm gonna have a hard time playing this one too since it looks just as scary as The Dark Descent, and, honestly, the screeching pig noise will probably not help in that regard.

Still looking forward to it, and then snuggling a blanket later to make the bad thoughts go away.

I've never actually played Amnesia, thought about doing it tonight for Halloween fun. This does look pretty creepy though, I'm interested in knowing what the pig monsters will look like. Who bets that it'll be released on a Friday the 13th, 2013?

As much as I'd love to pretend I'll play this game, I probably won't. I think I made it fifteen minutes into The Dark Descent before stopping. I tell myself I'll get back to it but who knows how long that'll take.
