Oh, god yes!

From Joystiq:

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/22/amnesia-a-machine-for-pigs/

The power of two crowned indie developer darlings have joined together to form one team, set to bring the Amnesia franchise into a new era.

Speaking exclusively with Joystiq, Frictional Games and Dear Esther's thechineseroom have revealed their latest project, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs.

Developed by thechineseroom and produced by Frictional Games, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is planned for a debut on PC later this year. No firm date has been set, but internally the two studios hope to launch before Halloween. A recent alternate reality game has been teasing the the next Amnesia's reveal, sending fans into a frenzy.

"It's not a direct sequel, in terms of it doesn't follow on from the story of Amnesia. It doesn't involve the same characters," Dear Esther writer Dan Pinchbeck told me. Instead, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs will be set in the same "alternate history and set in the same universe." In short, the game will look to scare your pants off.

Set in 1899, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs follows the "wealthy industrialist" Oswald Mandus, who has returned home from "a disastrous expedition to Mexico, which has ended in tragedy." Struck by a destructive fever, Mandus is haunted by dreams of a dark machine until he mysteriously regains consciousness. Months have passed, unbeknownst to the industry tycoon, and as he emerges from his slumber the roaring engine of a mysterious machine sputters to life.

A detailed interview with Frictional Games designer Thomas Grip and thechineseroom's Dan Pinchbeck is coming later today, delving deeper into the darkness with Amnesia's next chapter. And yes, the two discuss what A Machine for Pigs means.
The first game was easily one of the most incredible experiences I have had in entertainment and showcases the power of games as a medium. It was a cohesive and consistent experience that really made the best of a limited budget. I'm especially intrigued in exploring a tale in an industrial context.

Anyone else find this really exciting? Predictions? Thoughts?

Also, does anyone else think that Amnesia: The Dark Descent is worthy of its fame?

I'm very much looking forward to this, and I do hope that they can get the game released by october like they are estimating.

I'm also glad that they are going for a stand alone title rather than expanding on the storyline of the first game and tying the series down to one character.

Never played Amnesia: The Dark Descent myself because I'm a coward when it comes to horror. Proper horror, not a monster jumping from a closet going "ABLOOGY-WOOGY-WOO" and jump-scaring the piss out of me before having it's face removed by one of my many handheld weapons of mass destruction. The kind of horror that Amnesia has is indeed proper horror because even just watching videos of it on YouTube with my headphones on reduces me to a paranoid jittering wreck...that said it is quite good entertainment to watch videos of even more easily scared Swedish nerds play through. I also always like seeing smaller devs succeeding, so I wish the best to them.

The concept art released so far looks great, but seeing how I didn't have the guts to play Dark Descent, I doubt I'll be playing this one either... as ever, the only horror games I can stomach are Silent Hill and Alan Wake.

I cannot wait for this!

My toilet is also preparing itself, because there is no better laxative than a game made by the same folk that made Amnesia...

But seriously Amnesia was a brilliant game and I am eagerly anticipating this. The concept art looks intriguing and brilliant, and all the clues are fabulous!

I love horror in all its forms. I am also a console gamer. Out of sheer desperation I tried to download Amnesia on my 4 year old shitty laptop. Blue screen of death. True story bros.

Hold on, "Developed by thechineseroom and produced by Frictional Games". I don't like the sound of that. That sounds more like Frictional's involvement is high-level decision making and funding (or securing funding), rather than any actual game development.

I remember reading on Frictional's blog a while back that their next game was going to less of a horror focus... so it would make sense that what they're working on is a different game, perhaps.

Sounds awesome. I hope it is a bit deeper. I also hope it is a less focused on awful filters for my vision when my character is "scared". It gives me a headache. I was so glad when they patched it to let you turn it off.

Interesting.

I own Amnesia but haven't played it yet (too scared), but I played Dear Esther last week and was really...captured by it somehow. It wasn't a good game, really, but there was a lot of heart and imagination in it, and it actually made me kind of emotional.

I really think these guys would work well together.

Well since i despise playing games on pc (come at me bro) not really.

Also Amnesia was pretty disappointing to me after hearing so much good about it and it being really "scary". Wow a few weird noises and camera filters are SO scary. Having only the option to run from the monsters is a great concept - until you find out the monsters are just not scary. If they were more weird like in silent hill or dead space then maybe - but zombies and an invisble "thing". No, just won't do.
