Niche game be niche but I see a lot of vitriol toward these two companies from aGG aligned groups. But what makes them hated in their eyes as they root the reviews shitting on their game?

They make fanservice-heavy anime games. Gyrobot has a history of making threads defending fanservice-heavy anime games and calling everyone who acknowledges that they're fanservice-heavy anime games "sexually repressed".

I mean, I remember Compile Heart for super grind heavy games with paid DLC designed to skip the grind, supporting overly complex systems which don't actually do much game-wise, bolted onto standardized weeb stories and characters with cookie-cutter personalities.

That you can force a lady who doesn't like you to bear your children under threat of worldly destruction is the rotten cherry on top of the shit cake.

What... uh... what is the goal of this thread, again? I'm confused as to what you actually want here. Which aGG groups? Why is GG involved in this? Why Tamsoft and Compile Heart specifically? Which games, specifically? Do you want our personal opinions, random conjecture or are we doing some heavy RP here? Which reviews? Why is your OP not actually related to your thread title?

Like, give us something to work with here my man. If I hadn't known your posting history I'd have labeled this a troll post and moved on, as it is you're just missing a lot of... you know, context and basic information to actually discuss the thing.

(also while their earlier games sucked, I quite like Compile Heart's Neptunia series, at least with the re-releases).

People give them shit for fanservicey games, but my issue is the absolute amount of recycled assets and samey gameplay they churn out.

The games just aren't very good in the gameplay department.

I enjoy the jokes and humour in Neptunia but not quite enough to chug through the same sloggy gameplay and recycled assets from game to game.

For the most part I just find the majority of their games unfun. *shrug*

Especially Agarest wars. I feel like I've said it before somewhere, but I don't think I've ever encountered another game series I find more terminally un-fun to play. It's a shame, because the concept of generations, with each new character gaining a different appearance and skill set based on who the mother was the previous generation, was pretty novel, and the story wasn't too shabby.

Hang on, let me check my shelves for what compile hearts games I own, they made a lot of stuff.

Crossxedge: Basically a prototype Agarest wars... in that agarest wars basically just recycled all of this game's systems... if anything this one probably deserve the medal for my least favorite compile hearts game, since it lacks the polish of later games that used its systems.

Hyperdimension Neptunia: Not nearly as horribly un-fun as Agarest, but not really engaging either, and unlike Agarest, I don't even really find the story here very good. the characters are amusing, but not enough for me to follow them through more than one game... well, I actually own two HN games, though I only recall playing one.

Omega Quintet: This one is actually alright. Not super great, but the only compile hearts game I own that I'd go so far as to call "fun" to play. The story is basically an excuse to shoehorn japan's Idol Singer obsession into a JRPG, but it does get credit from me for being at least a little creative in justifying its tropes, although the more interesting parts of the game's lore are hidden away in optional text files. It's also one of the only games I've ever played that features female characters talking together in a bath that doesn't devolve into pseudo-lesbian compliments about each other's boobs/skin, which I remember blowing my mind, because that was NOT a hallmark I expected to remember Compile Heart for. XD

aaand... that's about it. I'm pretty much indifferent toward fanservice. It does nothing for me, and has zero appeal to me, but its presence doesn't bother or offend me, either. Dealing with fanservice is kind of part of the price I pay to enjoy the parts of japanese games I do like. Reviewers of CH games aren't necessarily being prudish... they're just poorly put together 9 times out of 10.

Dunno and don't care about GG or AGG, but they tend to get shit reviews because they are mediocre games that depend on their fan service to cover the holes in their design and gameplay. The worst of them actively degrade their gameplay or story to jam more fan service in, where compelling story or a complex system would be you've got mindless stripping or petting mini games and meaningless hot springs and slumber party interludes that don't even develop the characters. On top of that you've got themes that come off creepier the older you get, anime high schoolers are attractive at 20, when you reach your 30s it gets creepier, and that's not a Western thing, if you have Senran Kagura figures sitting on your office desk in Japan at 35 and you are going to be looked at as kind of a pervert.

The better ones tend to get better scores, Huniepop reviewed pretty well, and plenty of fanservice games get 7's and 8's from most reviewers so its not like the West despises these types of games, I have yet to encounter a heavy fanservice game that I would genuinely consider to be AAA level, even compared to other Japanese games, its a niche genre in the West.

I don't care about any of this noise. Play the games you like and if you truly like them be happy enough to drown out the silly complainers. This thread is pathetic ffs lol.

I played a few Compile Heart games as a critic. Most notable was probably Mugen Souls Z. The optional dungeon used to power up characters and unlock more endings (IIRC?) kept freezing during encounters with a specific enemy type, which were pretty common. They patched it eventually but... yikes.

And I enjoy a good videogame joke as much as the next person, but much of the dialogue in the Neptunia games was so insiped, I had to force myself to sit through it. (And that's coming from someone who enjoys 'cute girls doing cute things' anime and manga once in a while.)

*Shrug* Very specific niche for niche people. Doesn't bug me in the least. I chalk it up to the same category as visual novels.

At least it's not ryonas.

Oh shit, was Crossxedge actually made by Compile Hearts? I knew they were involved in that game, but since it was a cross over, a ton of companies were, so I didn't realize they were the ones who actually made it. Freaking LOVED that game. It definitely had its share of flaws (a lot of them actually), but I still had a blast playing it, and it was nice to see people remembering that Darkstalkers existed beyond having Morrigan/Felicia cameo in MvC (Jedah practically being the main villain made me squeeeee!).

That said, the rest of their games were unbelievably... not fun. Played Hyperdimension Neptunia, loved the cheeky idea of the characters being anthropomorphic game consoles, but beyond that one concept everything about it sucked. Goddamn actually playing that game was just the worst goddamned chore. Way too slow and just plain not interesting or fun.

Tried playing Record of Agarest War because, again, loved the concept behind it, but again it just wasn't much actual fun.

Don't think I've ever played or even heard of any other games they've made.

I heven't heard about them from my contact circle, so I'm looking at what they have released.

Huh? Monster Monpiece Naked? What is this?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_Monpiece

The game utilizes an "extreme rub" system (known officially as the "First Crush ♥ Rub" mode) to seal cards: "Poking, rubbing, and touching" the Vita's screen removes the character's clothing in stages, "from thick clothes to lightly dressed to skimpy bathing suit." The sealing system is split into two parts: one requires the player to poke or tap on the female character's private parts and the other requires the player to stroke the entire screen on both sides of the system (pictured). Touching the monster girls also causes their chest and thighs to jiggle in response.

At least it's classier than strip poker...

OK. That probably was a cheap shot, but on lack of specific games and complain examples from the OP, I had to check what sounded more controversial.

The first HN was one of the worst games I ever bought. Boring characters, unbalanced fights, combat was shit and you couldn't use items to heal yourself unless your health was low and RNGesus decided you could heal.

Both companies tend to fly under the radar and any problems/complaints/blahblah/etc, tend to also be under said radar. I'm not saying there aren't complaints towards them but it's never as wide spread and public as say Metal Gear(Or Konami in general), No Man's Sky, or if we return to the 'sexy' side, Neir Automata. Monster Monpiece Naked is probably the biggest thing they've had going for them in terms of sexy/perverts/yadda yadda/etc going for them. And even then that was a drop in the bucket(Around the time where EVERYTHING like that was getting some coverage. What was the dungeon crawler with sexy monster girls/revealing class outfits that some site complained about? I can't recall as about 3+ were talked about)

More people dump on them for the blandness of the games and reusing of assets again and again to an most EA Sports degree.
