An anime that made you cry

If you must know...

Heroic Age.

I listen to the music and watch the show and it's just that moving for me. Hell, I was posting about it in a different thread with the music on and...I just lost it right then and there. I dunno why, beyond that I love the show.

(Also, for the record, real men don't mind manly tears.)

Elfen Lied. Near the end I seriously was crying. I just couldn't help myself. And normally I'd be immune to stuff like that...but it was just SO...DAMN..SAD...

Eve no Jikan has a lot of emotional moments. It is about a futuristic society where androids are treated like garbage, but there is a cafe where the rule is that humans must treat androids with respect. The main character is a jerk to his house maid. Yet, he changes as he sees the androids acting like people at the cafe, but outside they are mistreated.

It is essentially the length of a movie so I don't want to spoil stuff, but ep 4 and 6 should definitely get people to feel something.

I think the fact that despite its futuristic setting, there is nothing over the top about it. Character designs are more realistic, no super powers, the plot isn't over the top, and very almost slice of life, thus making the moments have much more of an impact.

Another one that was not animated but life action: My sister's keeper. That shit was way too close to home for me, I blubbered like a middle aged house wife.

I have to say Elfen Lied. I haven't watched many animes. I usually watch them on a recommendation. I don't tend to get any emotion watching tv shows / movies. But I watched episodes 4 to the end in one night. This was probably a bad idea as the flashback episodes on 8 and 9 are pretty depressing and then top it off with 13 you end up a blubbing wreck. Or at least I did.

The part that turned me into the crying little girl was where Mariko meets her father, Chief Kurama for the first time. Sure she was a bit of a ***** but you could see that it was the torture and being isolated turned her that way. When she showed her true innocence and Kurama decides to die with her, I felt it was a really touching moment. Then to top it off there was the love of Kouta and Lucy. That got to me too towards the end that Lucy had found one person who made her happy only to end it as soon as it got good for her. But the ending cheered me up as I believe that Lucy didn't die after all the clues given at the end. But it has still left me depressed.

Several moments in both Naruto series have made me tear up.

Others I've cried in are Kanon, Steins;Gate, Digimon Tamers, Angel Beats!, and though it's not actually anime, I'm going to stick Avatar: The Last Airbender on the list, because it's the greatest show ever made and made me cry multiple times (and more each time I watch it).

Haven't cried to After Story fo some reason, but that was pobably because It tried too hard or when the EXTREMLY sad part came along I knew the makers wouldn't leave it hanging, weirdly enough the end of the Fuko arc (episode 8-9) was the one that got very close to make me cry.
There's a lot of hate towards the Big 3 but darn there are some fine moments in there, one of which is in One Piece when *Spoiler* they tell Ussop that they are going to leave The Vogue Merry and then when he stands up and... oh man that eye shot *End Of Spoiler* That moment actually made me cry

No anime has ever made me cry, but Welcome to the NHK has come the closest thus far. It just really hit close to home for me. My social anxiety has never been has bad as Sato's, and my stint with depression was relatively short (only about 1 and a half years, compared to people who deal with it their entire lives) and relatively mild (only had perhaps three legitimate thoughts of suicide, but never really came close to acting on them, thankfully), but it still felt like looking at a reflection of myself that's only rather recently past.

Neon Genesis Evangelion, if crying from confusion counts... Bo bo bo-bo bo-bo bo bo counts too, for the same reason... And for that spoons bit... Let's not forget Samurai Champloo... That left me jaded...

Okay, in all my years of watching anime I have only teared up during one episode of a show that I shouldn't ever find that sad in a million years. I was watching a subbed episode of the Kirby anime and teared up near the end of an episode involving Kirby finding a robotic puppy and treating it as his own little brother. The puppy is actually programmed to kill Kirby, but instead decides to kill itself to save Kirby's life.

I just think it's weird how a kid's show can make me sad while pretty much every other show or anime can't.

OH MY GOD THAT EPISODE!
You and me might be the only people on this forum that watched the Japanese Kirby Anime, but that was an unbelievably depressing episode for a kids show.

You can go ahead and add a third person to the Kirby Anime Fan Club. I can't believe I forgot about that episode. It's made even worse when considering that I've always had a soft spot for animals. You're right about it being surprising for a show intended for children to have such a sad episode. I was rather young when I watched it, and I just remember it leaving me feeling broken (that's the only word I can really think of for it right now).

Just a few off the top of my head. Pretty sure there is more.

Although they aren't animes. Little Busters, Da Capo II and Katawa Shoujo visual novels made me teared up a lot as well. Many mental, as well as, physical tears were shed.

I cried once when Gokuu met Son Gohan (his surrogate father, not his son) at the Urani Baba's tournament. But I was pretty young.

Not an anime, but crisis core when one of your superiors forces you to kill him out of sheers disgust of what he has become. You then inherit his signature item and give a speech to Shinra troops quoting him... Powerful stuff.

Sorry for the double post, but this thread is very very old, it's probably a better idea to start a new thread with the same topic/title rather than bring a year old thread back. Just some advice!

Naruto. A bit surprising to me too, but for some reason it gets to me when Naruto's parents are punctured through the chest and say their final words to their new born son, while bleeding to death.
