In a particularly drunken and bored moment a few nights ago, my two favourite types of game are RPG's of the open plan variety ie Oblivion and Fallout3, also guitar Hero games! So why not reboot the Bards Tale franchise with a Plastic Lute or tin whistle!
Imagine using the Natal system for combat and you earning money in taverns across the known world by playing gigs in taverns so you could get the world wide rockstar achievement.
Also doing magic with your instrument as the game progressed, you could also include a mike for working lyrics based on your exploits into it, it marking your XP based on how much of the quest logs you work into the songs of heroism.
Yeah this idea may sound crap on paper but just think about the awesomeness of working through a RPG without fighting a single monster!
