So an idea has been sitting in my head for a while now and id like to at least put out there and see what yall think.
So I suppose we all know about the usual format for getting gear in an mmo correct? Where you go kill the big bad dragon and he inexplicably has on him a bunch of random gear you dig out of his carcass. Well what if, and im just spit-balling here, instead of finding gear on the dragon you craft gear out of the dragon.
Now yes this sounds exactly like Monster Hunter but bear with me and let me hash is out a little. Say you down this dragon and click on him, this would bring up a window where you would be able to pick certain parts on him to scavenge. Say you cut out a piece of his wing or one of his claws\fangs. You would then be able to strait up use the item like the wing would be a cloak and the claw\fang would be a dagger\sword.
Now here is where it gets interesting. Beyond the piece you just got you could also get a Component piece from the mob. This component piece would have stats of its own and be able to add onto the Base item. Again the Dragon Wing, say you take the tail of the big wolf boss a couple of rooms back and be able to add it onto the wing, adding the tails stats to the wing as well as giving it a visual difference (my idea mechanic would be where you could put it anywhere you would like, think the Spore mechanic but a but more refined for gear.) This would go on with different components too; add some claws for more stats and a bladed fringe on your cloak; Use some fur you got from another boss to make some thread to embroider a pattern into the cloak; use some of the salts you got from the rock monster the cure the Wing to make it tougher so on and so forth. In the end you would have an Embroidered Dragon wing with a Wolf Tail collar and a claw fringe, and every piece of it, stats and all, tailored exactly how you want it.
Now im no programer (artist in training, would totally draw up some sketches of how it would look but I don't want to lose my train of thought) and I have no idea if this is even possible or how hard it would be, especially in an MMO environment. But the more I think about it the more it sounds great. I mean it would cut down on the "Damnit I killed this guy 5 times and im nowhere closer to getting the item I need than when I started", It would then likewise cut down on the grind sense you have definite goals to making your item, it would even help profession trading where you can make others be able to do different things with Components, possibly changing their stats\boosting them to their or others needs. Just imagine what that would be like in a world where there is no such thing as soulboud\character locks just level requirements and such.
Then again this may just be all a fanciful dream. PS Thank you so much to those who actually read this all, I know it seems like much but I really did want to get down this idea SOMEWHERE and this seems liked the best place.
