I believe this is the definition of "Off-Topic".

Oh yes, that thing, I'll bet you are suffering from big time nostalgia right now yes?

I am willing to bet that a long time ago, you use to draw these, and even if you didn't, you most defiantly saw these, possibly even in chain form. Im blowing your mind right now I know.

Now, I need to know, where the hell is this thing from, and why the hell is it a world wide phenomenon?

I always thought it was a Superman S symbol, and that it got it's popularity for being really easy to carve into a desk. But I might be wrong on that.

We just used them as a fancy way of drawing the letter S.
And yes, I did use to draw them. Alot.

I have considered this, but believe me when I say, this thing is known through the entire world, and nobody can say for sure where its from... its actually rather scary to think about...

I remember kids trying to impress each other by starting with the six vertical lines and trying to get people to guess what they were going to draw. I don't think there's anything special about it.

The only explanation is that it's some subtle form of mind manipulation...

Good lord, I haven't seen one of those since middle school. All I remember is that that S was the essence of brutal coolness back in my day. Well, well, times change.

Every guy I know used to draw that on papers or carve it into desks, I never knew what it meant, but now I'm curious :p I always assumed it was from a clothing company or somthing

Perhaps this is the real form of the arcane, insanity-inducing symbol that served as an inspiration for the WH40k eight-pointed star of chaos and gave ideas to certain other pieces of fiction

Because I myself remember drawing this symbol in earlier years when I was feeling bored, but I never really understood what it actually stood for.

That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die.

Man, now I'm sure I won't be able to sleep. Kudos to those who know the reference.
